If this isn't the case £20 million was offered. So what we are saying is a striker with a recognised goal scoring record is now a devalued asset? What complete and utter nonsense. Devalued from an alleged bid to a confirmed one? As mentioned earlier, if Gyokeres is the yardstick this is a fair offer. The talk of 25m or 30m or he stays is deluded.

Look at Brentford We arent gonna lose out though no harm keeping till summer for the same fee

Selling a recognised and proven goalscorer without an attached premium ( no matter how remote promotion may be) is as said complete and utter folly. Ipswich I'm not sure on.. will he go there to sit on the bench behind Delap? Ipswich bid for him in summer AFTER signing delap in summer and LL was very kenn to go talk to them. Ipswich already confirmed they want a striker and they want something different to Delap. LL is ideal for them and he will get his fair share of games depending on who they play.

Its not even a ridiculous amount that we may not see again. He goes and i lose the little faith i had of us having a crack. No doubt we will try our hardest but in the end no signings as usual with Bugzorg leading the line as Conway is still a 'few weeks away' I get it. But everybody has a price. Even a club with genuine promotion ambitions can look at a deal and see how it would benefit the club at the cost of a very good footballer. I agree though, only let it happen if we have a replacement lined up.

DocMartin 1,386 1.1k
Giles definitely unhappy, but I haven’t been told an official offer has been lodged since the summer one, never mind agreed and I have asked again. Hope Marks info is accurate.

I just don't think he plays much.. delap has been a revelation this season. Can also see why the MLS suits him. Comfortable living.. well paid.. easier level IMO.. nice retirement plan

Still not enough to *** our season over for me, but it would be our record sale and would be a major profit on him. Traore was more wasn't he? Which isn't going to be this season...and may not be next, unless we can significantly strengthen the squad (I point once again to the gap between Boro and the top 4). Selling our less important players for £3-5m and bringing in new players of similar value is basically just treading water. Also bearing in mind our limited squad places and that we need to sell in order to buy, it might just be that we have to sell one of our more valuable assets, in order to bring in a couple of substantially better players. Just my take, of course...I'd much rather ELL stayed too. 🤷♂️
AnotherSmoggy 217 201
We have to be ruthless this year in regards to squad places, Jones already gone I think a few more fringe players need to follow him, Barlaser should be the next to follow him

And my take on buy players cheapish to sell on? I fail to see how you ever develop and raise quality across the squad if your star assets are moved on. Shows a total lack of ambition - others will disagree of course!

We had no way of spending the money. £18m would let us strengthen any position we wanted to now. Which might make all the difference. That thought crossed my mind too. Transfer deals aren't always just about the amount offered. The timing, perceived value / form of the player and other things can come into it. Including the ability to spend the money received. 👍
