Maybe Woody is actually our attacking coach and we've all just got the wrong end of the stick.

Joking aside he's our most experienced coach, so it's possible he's actually the good one. I prefer the narrative that Graham Carrick is the issue

He wasn't here last season to be fair.

Well it would explain why we're playing similar to how we did when he was the manager.

Maybe instead of actual training sessions the players are having to sit through endless PowerPoint presentations?

Absolutely this. Highly likely that our remaining players this summer will be

Brynn, [Glover]

[Ayling], Fry, Edmundson, Borges

Morris

Whittaker, Azaz, Burgzorg, Hamilton

Conway

Pretty much everyone else is likely to go one way or another.

There may be some we can't sell due to their injury record: Bangura, Lenihan, Forss and McGree.

We might decide to keep Gilbert and Coburn if they have good loans and a new manager wants them. We might keep Ayling and Glover as back-ups.

That's one heck of a purge. It feels like a complete reset.

I’d be tempted to cash in on Azaz as he seems a bit of a luxury player. Assuming Hackney goes along with a few others we may have £20m to add to the sales from this January window - that must put the club with some decent options for rebuilding the squad surely if it’s spent wisely .

I think we should be careful not to get caught up in some anti Azaz narrative. His numbers are as good as gets at this level and it was only a few weeks ago he was our most important player. Yes his form has badly dipped but so has the whole team. That said I don’t think he’s the best at #10 not strong enough or assertive enough. He’s fine when we’re on top and he can get the ball in space facing their goal, when we’re up against it and he has to hold it up with his back to goal though he’s useless.

I wonder if we are leaving space to rebuild with players in the thought that Carrick might not be here?

Seems that Carrick has been backed and 3 seasons might be the end of the journey for both parties. Carrick might want a new challenge and or the squad might need a different coach to go to the next level.

After this season and being backed like he has, I’m not sure the fans or the club will have faith in him to go again anyway

He is absolutely the kind of player you need to build a team around. He reminds of plays like Le Tissier and Hoddle, "luxury" players who everyone demanded to be dropped in hard times. Most teams can manage one luxury player. It used to be a fox in the box type striker who did nothing all game then scored a goal. One reason ELL was so good for us was that he could do Azaz's dirty work for him because he worked so hard defensively.

One of the many problems we've had in the last few weeks is that Azaz has been in the same team as Barlaser and Doak who are both also "luxury" players who contribute very little defensively. If you surround Azaz with defensively strong players who are good at winning the ball back high up the pitch then Azaz gives you a fantastic range of passing and the ability to buy carve open defenses as well as being a threat himself from the edge of the box.

There's an option for Iling-Junior, Giles is open about wanting to come back, there's supposedly a deal to be done with Iheanacho if it works out, and I imagine Travers would be available if he's still not first choice at Bournemouth next season.

Doak's the only one that looks unlikely unless we're promoted.

I’ve seen a couple people say there’s an option for SIJ but I didn’t think there was. Gazette also say there’s no option?

I'm sure they mentioned there being one on BBC Tees last night, but I suppose there's a chance they're either misinformed or I've just misremembered what they said.

He’s also probably our only player who manages to stay fit.
