Jamie Jones is here as an emergency keeper, to help with and flesh out goalkeeping numbers in training. I'd be very surprised if we rely on him and an U18 for 5-7 games of the season...particularly when it's such a pivotal position for the way we play.

With all the talk about McNair's contract I thought I would double check who else was approaching the end of their contract....

Could we possibly target a long term Howson replacement in January ready for the summer or do we reckon he will sign another year?

I imagine Barlaser will step into the 1st team if he does leave but we would still need another midfielder in for cover - probably 2 as O'Brien's loan will end also.

Will we also see the end of Dijksteel? Clearly unfancied and entering the last 18 months of his contract. With Smith's contract also up next year it could be the time to start looking for a long term right back if Carrick currently sees Van Den Berg as more of a long term CB solution.

If we get a new RB in then VdB is able to move into the centre, with Clarke coming back as cover it could also spell the end of McNair's tenure

I think Coulson will be sold in Jan now we have both Engel and Bangura too

Nothing remotely concrete yet. Just that he was watched at the u21 game in the international break.

I would imagine he is on the Radar of a lot of Clubs if for no other reason than playing for the U21's. I can't see us selling him in January unless of course the offer is far too good to turn down but even so I can't see a rem Club splashing serious money in January on a Championship player, as good as he is he isn't at the level yet of saving someone from relegation from the Premiership.

I am going to exercise my inner “newyaddion” and predict my ideal January transfer window:

Incomings:

1. Right Back: Ben Johnson Permanent

2. Centre Back: Scott McKenna Loan

3. New Striker: Not decided who but Loan

4. Lewis O'Brien - Permanent. Despite his injury I want him as a long term Howson replacement.

Outgoings:

1. Paddy: If we get a new RB and CB hopefully can get a £1m+ for him.

2. Coulson: Permanent outgoing

3. Gilbert: Loan

4. Dijksteel: If he does not get much of a look in between now and Jan then he never will. Permanent outgoing.

I think we defs need a proper RB, I think is one of a few reasons we are not great at defending at the moment, think howson is another reasons for this as well
