Carrick is staying, at least Francis Benali thinks so. He was on commentary in the Bournemouth/Villa game on BBC Radio 5, I don't know if anyone noticed ?

Haha remember when I was with him in Kutis Brasserie Southampton and Rishy Sunak was a waiter in there, although obvs we didn't know he was going to be Prime Minister at that point 😲

Well If Francis Benali said it. It's a given.

I'd sign Giles.

I'd play him left back too.

We didn't play him, and it didn't do much good...

Crying out for pace and we have a natural right winger in SIJ playing left back, and an attacking left back on the bench.

Wrong wrong wrong.

Did you have him penciled in as maitre d at least?

The problem with Giles is that he kinda needs the team (or at least the front 4) built around him to work well. He needs a number 10 and right sided attacker that will make runs into the box, and a left sided attacker who will cut inside to give him opportunity to bomb on.

Azaz doesn't play that, Whittaker doesn't play like that, not even sure it's Conways strength either tbh. Of course we still have Mcgree and Forss who technically would be ideal but getting more than 10 games each out of them is hard work.

Is Chuba Akpom injured? He left Ajax to go to Lille on loan and has barely played.

If we could bring him back, even on a season long loan, signing Giles could be a shrewd move?

In other ex-Boro striker news, ELL went another game in the MLS without scoring but getting booked. Bizarrely it just doesn't seem to be working for him there.

@Denzel Zanzibar think Chuba would have interest from lower level teams in the top leagues.

However, i did notice Jacob Ramsey made his return from a 12 month ACL injury for Burnley towards end of season. Shame about his injuries as he looked very good during his loan. He wont be getting in the Burnley team in PL I imagine so will be loaned out.

He would be too much of a risk for his I think with his injury record. Maybe between him and McGree we might get 35+ starts out the two of them

Have been specifically been linked to either, it sounds more like the hosts of the podcast are giving examples of the type of profile we'd be looking at.

Didn’t we want Rene Meulensteen but he was in as a manager elsewhere and the move never materialised. I could’ve completely made that up!

He’s assistant manager of Australia wanted to do the World Cup in 2022 so didn’t join 👍

Such as ???

How about Aaron Danks coming back as manager, great coach and highly thought of at Villa and during his short time here. Got a bit frustrated I hear at the blocks that were put on his ideas by some of the present management team, but without those barriers and with his own coaches he would be a good shout
