A couple of ropey performances after being thrown in against two teams at the top end of the table and he lost interest. I guess you could make the argument that quickly realising you’ve made a mistake and dropping him is better than persisting with him for the sake of saving face, but it isn’t a great look. Like I've said elsewhere, he was poor in those two games then we went on a winning run from the first game he was dropped. Next game he had a chance to start was the next game we lost and was hooked at half time for being so poor.

I get that but I just feel like if you’ve pushed so hard to sign a player you give him more than 2 games to try and play him into form. Especially after he’d had a stop start first half of the season at Hull and you’re throwing him in against two teams in the top 4. I just don’t think it’s a brilliant look for him if he’s decided within 2 games that he’s cocked up and he hasn’t signed the player he thought he was. And given our LB is a position that's far more of an attack-minded profile of play where we have to accept a bit of a lack of defensive ability, the RB is a position where we need someone defensively solid to accommodate the LB. We already lack physicality and struggle to do the basics of defending without adding a 5 foot 6 inch RB like Mumba who has been part of a Plymouth defence that conceded 88 league goals this season. The only chance to fit him into our team would be if we're going to switch the roles of our fullbacks, with Borges doing the more defensive LB role and make the RB role the more forward thinking. Given we have Whittaker at RW wanting to come infield onto his left-foot to get shots off he'd benefit from a creative RB overlapping him, I'd see some sense in that. Interestingly, the Evening Gazette put out an article last week suggesting that so maybe they've heard it might be on the cards. Scott has previously said that the attacking LB role is the most difficult to recruit for in football as everyone is looking for them. We've tried loads of options to replace the void that Giles left after 2022/23 with Engel, Bangura, Coulson, Thomas, Iling-Junior etc. Even re-signing Giles in January could solve it so it's a significant problem for us. That type of thinking is exactly why Carrick has us in the mess we were in last season. His Pep Lite tactics were undone, dissected and shoved up his Jacksie. Every LB since that Akpom, Giles, Archer, Ramsey era has been hung out to dry and had their collective backsides handed to them. If Gibson is happy to go again with the by now two full flawed seasons tactics then his review will cost him the millions he deserves (to plagiarise Keith Lamb's quote) to spaff up the wall. We need a threat from both flanks and it's so obvious I'm struggling not to use profanities. Stifling and targeting our Left side was a key tactic with opposition managers with limited squads. Do that and Carrick had no plan B. A Manager/Coach worth his salt would have options to switch the threat and threaten with our Right instead of our Left. Perish the thought but he could even overload the opposite side but poor Woody would be emotionally drained at that and Carrick straightjacketed at the very thought of it. Just imagine the opponents not knowing what tactics we would employ and which flank we would target. Heaven forbid they may not be bold enough to target our LB for fear our RB might destroy them. That in a nutshell is why Carrick should not be anywhere near our Club come June.

Ayling got done in the second half, and Edmundson wasn't particularly good but from memory Giles played alright?
