I apologise for my recent lack of contributions and enthusiasm of late but I was somewhat under a cloud of uncertainty. At my age the NHS invites you to do all sorts of things and one was to take

Remember the meltdown on this forum just 4 weeks ago about lack of transfer and ambition of our club. Just to summarise some of the utter shi*e spoken less than a month ago: 1. Our club has

I'm in the club hoping this means we can move for Gilchrist. He seems ideal as a back-up wing-back and possible 1st choice RCB. Given the way Ayling has started, Gilchrist, Ayling and Brittain seems like a good unit covering RCB and wing-back especially as Jones is also comfortable at RCB. (As is Lenihan if he ever gets back from injury.) We then have Dede and Patterson-Powell as U21s who could possibly be developed. It all looks like a pretty good mix of experience, ability and potential.

Incredibly, Bournemouth have sold 3 defenders this summer for a combined £147M

I know - bonkers. Think they’re manager could’ve worked wonders with Rav to be honest.

I agree with that but our priority has to be improving the first XI at left wing back first because defensively Silvera is not good enough to be first choice. I'm not holding out any hope but Bangura would be a superb deputy for Arfsten.

Lennon Miller going to Udinese for £4.3M, touted to have a big future, looks a decent price

Northern Echo now suggesting Alfie Jones was/is the VDB replacement when at the time im sure they said he was being signed regardless, looks like we wont be getting another CB

To be honest, i would rather us get a rwb option and keep ayling as one of the wide cb options. Just don't think he's good enough for RWB personally.

Strelec is 12m... not a chance..sorry

Yeah I'd be disappointed/worried if we paid 12 million for a striker in the slovakian league who's previously failed in italy at both Serie A and B level. I appreciate that players develop but he's playing at a fairly low level and scoring in europe and for his national team obviously gives him credit I don't think I'd go above 5-6 million for him. Latth was playing at roughly the same level and we got him for around 5 million iirc. Not a chance a player from the slovakian league should cost 12 million unless it's some very young wonderkid destroying the league.

I rate him and he’s looked good so far, but that’s *** if true. We need another body in imo. Fry and Lenihan have dodgy fitness records, I don’t think anybody particularly rates Edmundson, and Borges and Ayling can do a job but they’re not really CB’s.

Wouldn't we need a left footed CB before we get another right footed player in. So far we only have Borges and he's not really a CB.

But is it:

(13 million euros after add ons) + a sell on fee

or

13 million euros after (add ons + a sell on fee)

??

its the up front and add ons. the sell on is separate even if worded to make it sound like its included. as how can you put a value on that without knowing what price he will be sold for, where the other items are definite values.

Very frustrating if this is the case because like you say it's definitely not what was being said at the start of the Jones links. Hopefully we get another CB in on loan or something.

They didn't say that.

They said VDB would only be allowed to leave if certain conditions were met, and that we'd be strengthening our defence regardless of his exit, they've never said Jones wasn't his replacement.

I think it's always been obvious that he was, we're not spending up to £3m on a player this summer to be a back-up.

We'll now presumably be bringing in a back-up option on loan.

I actually think in this 3 at the back set up, having orthodox full backs as the wide CBs can work really well. They tend to have a bit more pace and mobility than regular CBs so they can operate 1v1 against wide men a bit easier, and they tend to be better at carrying the ball forward and getting up to support the WB, which is really important to make sure a 3 at the back doesn't become too defensive.

Fry/Jones/Edmundson/Lenihan - you'd think at least 1 of them would be fit at all times (probably Jones) supported by Borges/Ayling is genuinely quite good for the back 3 at this level.
