BORO v Coventry City 1-3 (Coburn)

My friend married a girl from The Philippines and when eventually her son arrived in England I took him as a 10 year old to the Ricoh arena to watch Coventry V Boro I recall us losing and Kyle staying the obvious that Boro were not very good (out of the mouths of babies hey?).

As you know I am staying overnight in Newark and coming to watch the Boro today, I have asked Kyle if he wants to come with me and so if he does look out for a small Sumo wrestler type with a pony tail and the guy with him will be me! He was not exactly enthused about the invitation but as he has nothing better to do then hopefully he will see a dispaly much better than his first football game that he went to!

How ironic that it is Coventry again because we do not seem to know how to beat them.

Be at The Six Medals @boro-unger if you want to join us and will probably get tickets for the West Stand anyway

Footnote he is not coming he has found something better to do, fixing a garage door for his Dad (my mate) go figure!

I was checking Coventrys form earlier and they really picked up. Only lost 1 in the last 10 league games and are unbeaten in they last 6. Tough afternoon awaits us.

Plus a comfortable 3-0 win at Sunderland, Robins is a decent manager who has done well at Coventry in his time there, probably, as hard a game this season as any

Given how Boro have fared against Coventry recently that might actually be a smart choice! 😆

I think I'm with @TheJew today. Defeat is, well...you know...

Literally been a season of inconsistency. We should have had 6 points versus Hull and Rotherham putting us right in the mix, and that's without taking into account the carcrash of the first 7 games. Talk of this being a strong league this season don't wash with me, it's the consistency that gets you out of this league.

Coventry rebuilt similar to us, the difference being imo their signing were significantly better. They have real attacking intent and purpose.

3 nil defeat today is inevitable. INEVITABLE!

Oh, and happy New Year.

Hoping to see Coburn start today. His link up play has been missed.

Not to mention his goal scoring potential.

Just had a quick glance at the table and Coventry, like Huddersfield, have drawn a lot of games. Unlike the Terriers though, they are unbeaten in their last 5, winning 2 and drawing 3. They have a decent goal difference...a healthy +8 (but not scary like Leicester's +33).

Given Boro's defence, there likely will be goals in this game. Wright & Godden seem to be the Sky Blues' chief goal-scorers, with Sakamoto, O'Hare and Simms chipping in with a few. We could need a couple just to get a point from this.

4-1 today lads. Will be a nervous first thirty followed by a flurry of goals and even a first league goal for Kav

UTB

(not sure why I am feeling so positive but was up early fixing the sealing around our kitchen worktops and am now in the zone)

After a slow start while he adjusted, Haji Wright has started to fire

6 goals and 3 assists in his last 12 goals, the majority playing on the left wing or left-sided attacking midfielder. Given our lack of a right back and inability to defend the right and left channels, this could be a bloodbath.

Coventry's good run seems to have coincided to them switching to 4 at the back. Looks like they play 4-1-4-1 away and 4-4-1-1 at home.

I'll be about. Let me know when you get to the 6M and I'll pop along.

Unless there is a surprise return to fitness, Carrick has one real decision to make, who is left back, as the team pretty much picks itself. I will be quite interested to see the pecking order from the bench re Kavanagh, Gilbert and Hoppe.
