Why does it have to be ‘odd’? Maybe it’s just the right thing to do. I agree it’s hard to know either way without seeing them play, but I just dislike how it’s used as a stick to beat managers with when they are in a far better position than us to know if they’re good enough.

I know what you're saying mate but using that logic then Wilder was correct not to play Hackney.  Hackney only got good enough just after Wilder left, at which point it was ok to get him in the side?  I don't think it's ever that sensible to use the old 'managers must know more than us' stuff to justify whatever daft decisions they make.  They are just people, and people make stupid decisions all of the time.  I mean look at earlier this season, he had McGree penciled in as a back up left back!  Presumably simply on the basis of being left footed cos McGree can't defend to save his bloody life.  So let's say that he maybe isn't all knowing when it comes to judging players.  He's just a bloke that used to be good at kicking a ball around at the end of the day, it doesn't give him special wisdom.  I don't think anything is being used as a stick to beat him with as such, at least that's not what I'd call it, otherwise any questioning of any decision has to be viewed the same, which just seems silly to me.  We can disagree with something he does without it being an attack on the fella 🤷‍♂️

I was more on about how he will speak to the academy coaches, maybe even put certain players in first team training and see how they look there. Thats before you even get to his knowledge on whether he ‘knows a player’ or not. All of that vs us who let’s be real only go off of academy match reports and stats at most, plus the odd one or 2 who go and watch the games.
