Millwall v Boro 1-3 (Engel, Jones, Forss)

Recommended Posts

Provably our oldest player who played for Boro & Millwall

Joseph Gettins – Born in the  Boro, Joseph who was a member of our 1894/95 FA Amateur cup winning team & also played in our first ever football league games away & home games our debut away game v Lincoln & 1st home league game v Small Heath, both defeats – His career seemed to see him change clubs from Boro to Millwall, back to Boro, back to Millwall etc, this happened numerous times, for whatever reason

I'm hoping after the last two intense games our players will find it easier with the drop in level. Looking forward to seeing how Azaz does. Then Rogers and Greenwood would of rested agaisnt Chelsea so should be ready to go.

Half the starting 11 won't have even been involved in the Chelsea match, so they shouldn't be too impacted.

I can see Carrick maybe resting one of two players to protect then from injury.

* Jones and Barlaser I think have started 7 games in 21 days so could see then teo been given a breather.

* Would be surprised to see Ayling start but not totally shocked as might allow a Clarke a breather so not to play 3 games in 7 days this early in his recovery

* Coburn was not meant to start on Tuesday but has also played more games than hoped for given his injury struggles.

Could see us lining up like this:

Glovee

Ayling Fry VDB Engel

Howson Hackney

Rogers Azaz Greenwood

Crooks

Subs: Jones, Clarke Bilongo O'Brien, Barlaser, Jones, Gilbert, Coburn, Kav

Think the team wont be far away from what you have predicted, with Clarke playing so many minutes after been out for such a long time it makes sense to rest him when possible, such an important player for us, IMHO mind

This will give us an insight into how realistic a play-off push really is this summer. Away to a Millwall team who are above us in the table and in better form.

Make no bones about it, this is a really difficult game and we're going to have to deal with it on the back of the emotional and physical fatigue of Tuesday and with around 1,637, 723 injured players.

To be serious about the play-offs this is the kind of match we really need some sort of result from.

Team wise, I guess it's going to be about getting as many fresh legs onto the pitch as possible.

I think that means everyone who didn't play on Tuesday gets to start. Apart from Gilbert, naturally.

I reckon that Carrick will make a public show of faith in Greenwood and give him a run out up front. RVDB looked to be struggling a bit after the match while Crooks and Coburn looked absolutely shot so I think they get a rest. Sounds like Forss and O'Brien will get to watch from the bench.

Although I think we'll revert back to the usual 4-2-3-1 we might see that it sets up a lot more defensively with Jones positioned more like a wingback than a winger.

Predictions: I think this will be a match too far so I see us losing 2-0.

I just hope we don’t do a “typical boro” and go get beat against millwall. We should be confident and beat these comfortably

Why should we beat them comfortably? They're above us in the table, in better form than us in the league and their players have had way more rest than ours

Millwall aren't a bad side but they are nothing to fear either. The thing about our injuries are they seem to strike and leave us short in one position after another. With Ayling signing and O'Brien almost back to fitness , we have covered right back and midfield.  Last week , we had 3 left backs but now Engel must play every game. Looks like we wont have a striker , at least a senior one, fit for tomorrow so I think Greenwood may play upfront.  It's incredibly frustrating.
