Not sure who the last Championship manager was to get appointed to a Premier league team. Nathan Jones perhaps? Frank Lampard sort of. There's not exactly much evidence of it happening. Championship managers seem to rely on getting promoted in order to manage in the Premier league.

You can argue that McKenna and Carrick both coached at Man Utd but I don't see an established Premier league team taking a gamble on someone who has never managed in a major league. Carrick's 3 games don't count.

I guess there's a slight chance that Carrick walks if he has a fall out with the club or feels he can't take us any other further but I see no signs of that. I see plenty of signs of the fanbase starting to get sceptical about Carrick but this is probably a fairly normal low point for a manager in their first job. I reckon odds are that Carrick will prove to be a top manager and that this season will be the making of him. Painful right now though.

Good points raised, though Im not too convinced he's done enough to be spoken as a top manager in the making, same as the Ipswich manager whose done fantastically well

He'll be tested now he's at the start of his first setback as a coach with Ipswich dropping down to 4th after such a commanding lead over the 3rd team

I would have liked to have seen Ipswich go up automatically, rwally impressed how he turned them around last season

Think last season was possibly a bit of a false dawn as he had the luxury of players we couldn't realistically hold on to long-term.

Now he's probably getting a more objective idea of the scale of the task, having to work with players we can actually afford.

I could be completely wrong, but I still can't shake the feeling Carrick is also being hamstrung by the current coaching set-up. I've not seen anything to suggest the players we bring in are improving in any aspects (apart from whatever they learn in the heat of battle on matchdays). Also seeing Woody standing alongside him during matches, knowing how he turned out as a head coach, its hard to think MC is getting any worthwhile advice from him.

Would really love to see our coaching staff overhauled...but thats probably not happening any time soon.

Don't the coaching staff get any credit from you for Rogers and his remarkable progress?

CBA with this one, to be honest. I'm away in Aberdeen this week, so will probably check the result, say "FFS Boro" out loud in a restaurant to general bemusement, and then get on with my evening.

Between the missed opportunity of the transfer window, the Chelsea humiliation, selling Crooks, the ST pricing news and the weak-as-a-used-teabag performances in recent weeks, I'm scunnered with the club right now. Sorry if that makes me sound fickle, but I'm finding it hard to generate any enthusiasm for upcoming games when it seems like the club has already checked out for the season.

Roll on August.

“Selling crooks”

Ive seen a few people mention this as a stick to beat the club with. He’s barely started a game for us in 2024 and when he does play all you seen were “get crooks off the pitch now ffs” comments.

Youd think we’d just sold McGree to Sunderland for £1m the way some people are going on 🥲

Honestly not sure how Palace ended up shamelessly going back to Hodgson. In such a short space of time too. What a way to turn a decent end to his time there into a tragedy that needs fixing.

Clubs keep doing it, rather than letting them leave on a high.

We did it with Warnock.

Huddersfield did it with Warnock.

You tell me. Some games he was anonymous, others he admittedly did well. Hard to gauge progress when performances are inconsistent.

But you could say the same about Hackney. He recently had a spell as one of our better players, but just lately he seems to have gone off the boil.

Its hard for good individuals to stand out in teams that are poor overall (although McGree seems to buck that trend).

In any case, picking out individuals when the team continues to be so erratic and downright poor at times is clutching at straws a bit I think. I don't see how our coaching staff are actually earning their money.

Points from MC Presser:

1. LL should be back training next few days. Potentially available for Plymouth.

2. He knows Hackneys best position is midfield and he is not trying to “reinvent”. Was a case of needs must but hinted he will now go back in to midfield.

3. Not actively looking at free agents.

4. izzy a few weeks away yet, sounded like he might be back for that 3 game week before internationals

and the most interesting point I took:

Hoppe has been fit for a while which speaks volumes given he not made bench to point at times we had only one genuine attacker on bench alongside 4 defenders and 2 DMs

This is a lie.  There was no needs must on Saturday.  Sorry but this is the nonsense I was on about the other day.

Usually all in for O'Brien but I think I'm actually gonna go for Howson this time. For me:

Dieng
Ayling Fry VDB Engel
Howson Hackney
Forss Azaz McGree
Greenwood

Reckon that will be the team as well

Happy enough with Greenwood up front. He did ok at the weekend - keeper saved a couple and there was a very dubious offside to chalk off a decent goal.
