Leicester V Boro 1-2 (Azaz, Silvera)

Recommended Posts

Well, great. It’s my turn again. My 3rd time on rotation and it's only February. Not a positive sign. I’m one of the more ra-ra optimistic/delusional (delete as appropriate depending on your own outlook) fans. However, even I can admit things are pretty bleak at the moment. The team looks short on ideas and toothless up top. Poor communication and planning from the club over season tickets, and a feeling of general malaise as a promotion push peters out and we wait for a summer rebuild/retool/reshape. What we really need right now is a game we can win to boost morale.

So, what’s our next fixture guys………oh……….

Leicester City Vs Middlesbrough

  Saturday 17th February 2024 3pm

             King Power Stadium

Yes, Boro’s beleaguered boys head into the toughest fixture of the season at a less than ideal time. The champions-elect have been kicking @rse and taking names all season. Flying high at the top of the league and swatting aside almost all opponents they’ve faced.

The table makes grim reading for us. Leicester have scored 68 goals this season, with a goal difference of +44. Boro have scored 45 total. Ew ☹.

Interestingly, Leicester don’t possess a prolific goal scorer, the squad seems to share the goals out. A bit like boro (but much better obviously).

Still, one of Leicester few losses this season did come in the reverse fixture. So, anything’s possible I guess (highlights of better times below)

Important discussion

It’s pretty bleak for boro at the minute, so I thought it might be nice to discuss something completely non-boro related pre-match to lift the mood!

I’ve got a hypothetical situation to present (that I definitely haven’t stolen from someone on social media), and I would like you lot to tell me what you would do in this situation and why.

You are trapped in an enclosed arena. You are about to be attacked by a variety of creatures. You can select two of these groups to defend you. The rest will try to attack you. The options are:

·        30 hawks

·        10 crocodiles

·        3  bears

·        15 wolves

·        1 hunter (with a rifle)

·        7 buffalo

·        5 gorillas

·        10,000 rats

·        4 lions

Choose two options from this list. The rest are coming to end you. Which options do you choose and why?

Reckon we will see more of the beautiful passing it out from the back and getting our asses handed to us on a plate with a Cricket score, or Woody and Carrick have an Epiphany, decide to keep it tight at the back and try and catch them on the break with our pace. Pace? Bugger!

On the question I'd go with the 15 Wolves, like Boro they like to hunt in packs. A pack of what exactly is an entirely different question.

Think Carrick said LL is “touch and go” for this weekend. I would not risk him v Leicester as its a free hit and instead give him the extra week for Plymouth at home. That game is important in terms of potentially springboard for a season which at moment is dying a slow death.

If LL is fit then again, place on bench at best.

I would go with:

Dieng

Ayling Fry VDB Engel

Howson Hackney

McGree Azaz Silveria

Forss

According to my stats we've never scored a penalty away to Leicester, not won there since 17th September 2001 winning 2-1 win with 2 late goals from Paul Ince in the 85th & Jonathan Greening in the 88th, what better way to change all that than converted penalty winner

I wonder if we'll revert to the 532 for this one?

Personally I'd go 433 -

----------------Dieng-------------

Ayling---VDB------Clarke---Engel

-------------Barlaser-------------

------Hackney--------O Brien-----

McGree-----------------------Azaz

----------------Forss--------------

We know how rigid Carrick is generally, but he has shown some flexibility when coming up against certain teams (Villa, Chelsea, Southampton and in particular, leicester in the reverse fixture) so it wouldn't actually surprise me if he deviated from his 4231 for this one.

Hope to God he does, for his own sake as much as for the Players and Fans alike.

Just a big shrug from me.

Even our strongest fit side will struggle in this match, they're a much better side than us, so I'm not going to be too critical about the result if it goes the way you'd expect.

Half expecting Glover to still be starting just to try and prove a point, which is the only thing that could annoy me with the lineup now.
