That's one of the lowest figures in our team. Fry's is actually higher, and as far as I can see there are only a few players worse than him - Hackney, Barlaser, Smith, Ayling, Clarke and the goalkeepers. That's not great but alongside that, he actually has taken more shots than anyone in our squad this season, other than Greenwood as it happens. So not only has been shooting a lot, he's been missing most of the time as well. The joking about Silvera's finishing hasn't been a result of fans not being fair to him, it's been because his shooting since he joined us has largely been terrible. My main frustration with him was he kept resorting to his party trick of cutting inside and shooting. I’d bet a lot of his shots or at least equal amounts are from outside the box. He always gave the air of trying to hard imo. Tbf to him you can see the signs of development in him, not as rash as he used to be and uses the ball better. I think getting out of here and going with Australia for a few weeks has helped him a bit. Not saying he’s suddenly turned into a world beater but I think he’s slowly showing what he can bring to the team.

A bit more composure would do him the world of good.
JCWamma 420 239
I think Silvera built that rep for being a poor marksman early in the season. In the first 11 games, he only 5 shots out of 24 on target. If we only look at the league, he had 5 shots on target from 32 prior to the Asia Cup. Since returning from the Asia Cup, he's got 3 shots out of 7 on target. That's a marked improvement, albeit with a smaller sample size. Obviously without having stats on the quality of positions it's not completely meaningful - there isn't an "xSoT" stat, to my knowledge - but for what it's worth, in those first 11 games he had 1 goal from an xG of 1.7, and since the Asia Cup he's had 2 goals from an xG of 1.2. Could be a form thing, could be actual development, but either way let's celebrate the improvement while it's here.

He was given another goal after getting the ball booted at him, and it bounced in off his back. I would say using that as an example of his improvement is pushing it a bit. The finish against Leicester on the other hand was tidy, and well taken.

But still, the overall point about his shots on target still stands, I think.
Changing Times 13,018 20.1k
I mean, if he could score 25 a season off his back I wouldn't complain like 🙃

TeaCider24 13,964 18.6k
Off that, I'd quite happily add an asterix to Silvera's tally for the Bristol goal. Absolutely zero intent, and it would have been considered an Azaz goal if it had ricocheted in off an opposition player. Not a slight on Silvera, I've always had a soft spot for him and I really hope he kicks on with that quality Leicester goal, but I'd have unintentional goals alongside penalties as something that "counts less". Changing Times 13,018 20.1k
Silvera is a funny one. Back in the summer I thought he was the one most likely to make a decent impact straight away but it just didn't quite happen for him. Maybe the time away gives him a fresh start of sorts. I'd sooner see him in the team than Greenwood simply on the basis that he's our player, and I don't know what will be happening with Greenwood come the summer.
JonnyMFC 1,627 1.8k
Lets not get too carried away with Silvera, he's still very raw and just because he's had a couple of decent games it doesnt means he's suddenly a world beater. There is still a lot he has to work on and I dont think that weve seen the end of him taking a touch too many or the days of him running down a cul-de-sac are behind him just yet. There does seem to be some improvement, but for me the jury is still out on him.
Redcar Rioja 6,772 6.6k
If Silvera has learned composure when shooting that will be a huge improvement plus the RSPCA will be relieved on behalf of the Riverside Seagulls.
