If Gibson goes from wanting to extend his contract to sacking him in the space of two or three games then he isn't thinking rationally. Well that's something that could be attributed to Gibbo regarding Manager decisions over the years regardless.

Skinemrippers 1,168 1.2k
Just back from the match. Really awful once again - no energy, fight or creativity. Honestly the players look like they don’t care half of the time, Carrick stood on the sidelines similarly showing no energy or passion. It’s just rubbish. I don’t want to see Thomas or Ayling again. I usually stick up for Barlaser but he needs dropping for his own good now. He has no confidence at all, try one of the kids in there or play McGree in the middle. Carrick needs to play ugly now. Go 5 at the back, keep it tight. A clean sheet (don’t laugh) would maybe give a little bit of confidence. Got to start somewhere to stop the rot. If we are looking to give him a contract extension then what difference does two defeats mean in the great scheme of things? Either you believe in the bloke or you don't. It's not like things have been going brilliantly, and we've been hoodwinked into offering an extension. But that's if what is being reported is true of course, which it might not be. It’s not the defeats, it’s the manner of defeat and lack of seeming improvement and actually looking like we’re getting worse. We don’t even get the 2nd half fight back anymore.

It's not even a money issue necessarily, as other teams appear to sign really decent (or even bang average) players for nominal fees, whilst our scattergun approach seems to lack care, thought and strategy. We haven't really replaced any of the players that left with anyone close to having similar skill sets. The only real quality has been Rogers and RVB, everyone else still has a massive question mark over their head even at this time in the season. Our best players remain those from last season. The loan signings are even more baffling. All season it has felt that Carrick doesn't know his best 11. He was given too much tripe and not enough quality. How it looks to me being completely honest is a manager trying to be to clever with his system and a DoF trying to be to clever with his signings. Sometimes it’s better to just bring in Karlan Grant than some hidden gem from the Danish 2nd division (just an example).

I thought O'Brien was one of the only ones to come out with any credit today, he tried his absolute best but he can't do much with such *** around him IMO! Erimus74 5,353 5.5k
First off, the calling for Gibbo to sell up is a total non starter, who is there out there who wants to buy an average midtable club Secondly, not sure whats getting worse, the performances, or Carricks stubbornness with his rigid, boring, slow, awful football, with like for like players when things are going against us Each home game im sat in my seat bored watching the same boring, slow football, watching our oponents in whatever league position press us so high we're making numerous passrs just to get out of our own penalty area, im sick of seeing our opponents create numerous chances within the earlyvstages resulting in a goal & usgoing behind Now im hoping that with the money we've recouped over the past 2 seasons will be put into this summers team building, more in hope that feeling positive, because of who we'll be bringing in I'll renew, im lucky to be able to, but can understand fans walking away, looking at how we are set up next season & if happy with the club renew or go from game to game, the club couldnt have timed the price increase at the worst possible time And thats without taking into account our horrendous recruitment over the past few seasons

If you're making decisions on the back of that then you'll always be changing your mind. Is it a couple of games? This is no different to the start of the season and it’s no secret that many of our games have followed a very similar pattern of play. The whole reason for it was we had no striker and now we have a striker and nothings changed it’s bc jones isn’t playing, when jones comes back and nothing changes what will the issue be then? The coaching and set up….. If I was Carrick I’d be signing that extension tomorrow, if I was the club I’d be saying let’s wait till the end of the season. It would be a horrendous decision to extend the contract of someone who as it stands has a fundamentally flawed game plan. Maybe behind the scenes the club accept a large part of the blame due to the summer investment and are willing to overlook this season. Im all for Carrick staying on but he really has to start showing something pretty quickly or we are 100% getting sucked into that relegation fight and I’m not sure I fancy us to come out on top.

Me too, im a fan of Carrick staying but for me the club have to wait until the summer before contract negotiations, if we continue in our slump then he isnt the man to take us forward & costing the club more money, if he suddenly turns it around then hevshould be given the chance to start the season as manager

edinboro 1,462 2.3k
I think if we were in a pre-Scott world Carrick has gone today. Gibson doesn't sit by and let us sleepwalk to relegation. I would expect some hard conversations this week. The next 3 might just be make or break. Wednesday will be a low crowd and probs a very quiet atmosphere. The players need to drive themselves forward. I'm not sure other than Rav any of them have it in them.
TheJew 3,662 6.1k
I'm past caring, really. This was sort of how I felt at the start of the season when reality dawned that we weren't really going to "go for it" per se. I'll always support the Boro. Whether it's non league or Championship, but there's so much fundamentally wrong with the club imo and so much stuff going on in my personal life that I'm just left with general apathy towards the club. Hoping we stay up at the moment, but if we don't - so what?!
