Birmingham City v BORO 0-1 (McGree)

Has Carrick actually turned a corner, managerially?

I think our form has turned a corner for the short-term but that is nothing particularly new for this season if we only look in short spells of games. I backed him to stay in the job but my position hasn't changed much based on those 2 results. I think he'd already showed he can turn corners with the squad at the start of the season when things looked a lot more gloomy than it has been. But I also think he's not moved past the things that concerned people in the space of a week. The 2 results were big for us but they are just that, 2 results. It's certainly no 'gotcha' for people who wanted him gone, in my eyes.

How much has luck (good or bad) effected this season?

Depends how you determine things as luck or controllable. I think the one big point that always stands out is injuries. I don't know to what extent changes at the training ground might have impacted on that, I'd hazard a guess some of it comes down to that. But we've had so many injuries to deal with this season. Dieng, Smith, Fry, McNair, Bangura, Lenihan, Hackney, McGree, Jones, Howson, O'Brien, Latte Lath, Coburn and Forss have all had some significant periods out of the side. 3 of them have been season enders.

There's definitely some small caveats to that. The internationals impacted us but we should always have expected that and Carrick's choices haven't always reflected our injuries, prime amongst them keeping Dieng out of the team when he was fit to play again.

There has been one positive bit of news on the injury front with Clarke coming back to fitness, given people thought he was bound for retirement. It has been great to have him back. Though I'd argue the significance for the team pales in comparison to the significance for the individual, he's definitely had good and bad moments. I like him, though.

Essentially, if you think the injuries are mostly luck-based then we have had some rotten luck which has not balanced out over the course of the season.

How many will we win by?

I can never get past Brum away as being a 2-0 win for the home side. Clinton Morrison on boxing day just lives in my head when it comes to St. Andrews.

Starting 11?

I'd have a guess but I haven't had chance to read about any updates on the injury front and I never watched the QPR game so I didn't see how any of the players reacted coming off. Apart from any of those concerns, I'd be surprised if Carrick made significant changes to the team and the setup. Particularly with it being an away game, it would probably make sense for the time being to continue with the 5 from the start.

Like someone else said this game could go either way...For whatever reason we seem to struggle against teams in the bottom quarter Why that is I'm not sure

Based on the last 2 games? Nope. Got lucky in the first with an undeserved red card which completely turned the game. That was heading to a defeat prior to the red.

Then we beat a team in the relegation mix. A better performance, but against a poor side.

Takes a lot more to show progression then those two results.

Depends on if you think injuries are down to luck, I guess.  Think more that our inflexibility in our setup and style of play has cost us more.

How many will we win by?

Really should be looking for a couple of goals in it.  3 - 1.

Starting 11?

If he's sensible, the same 11.  Got to build on what little we have.

Cant disagree with any of that TBH

Feeling optimistic about tonight, hope we can take the positive results and carry that momentum through; same team for me if it’s possible

anyone know how many tickets we’ve sold for tonight? Just on the a64 on the way down now and not sure whether to expect 500 or 2000?

Coulda shoulda woulda won the double that season.

They certainly shoulda, the loss to Birmingham was bad, losing to Wolves & Leicester in April add to that drawing at home to Derby who w battered that afternoon, scored their equaliser in the 89th minute after a mistake from Stuey Boam

And the challenge for title was over 😔

To be fair to Greenwood we have no idea what is going on with knocks, niggles, other issues. He has scored a couple of excellent goals and it isn’t long ago that people were saying what a good deal we had with the purchase option. Perhaps a little patience is needed.

People said it was a good deal because he was scoring goals, read the match day thread and he’s still getting slaughtered either side of the goal. He does nothing and it’s literally like playing with 10 men.
