ManBearPig 2,231 4.1k
I honestly think the reason we’ve struggled at home is for the majority of the season we’ve played a 4231. I’m not sure it suits our players. At least the wingbacks now get forward, but yes the quality is not the same as last season for sure. I find it strange that we don’t play with an aerial presence type of striker for the amount of crosses we put in this season. Maybe that’s an area we’ll address in the summer but when we cross the ball I have 0 faith that we will score a header from a striker.

We may have a decent home defense but it can’t be that good away, we’ve conceded 2-3 goals multiple times. But we've got the 6th best away record in the league. Away form isn't our problem, home form is our problem, home goals are our problem, and that's why we are where we are in the league and not higher.

I think we win more games than we lose when we don’t cross the ball in as much I think crossing tends to be something you do more of when you're either behind, and desperately trying to get back into the game, or level and pushing for a winner late on. I don't know if we'd be crossing that much when we are ahead or level but there's lots of time to left.

I'm glad he's pushed on after his start but it's like a race to get rid of the ball as soon as he gets it. He's so limited apart from the occasional good pass and he's frustrating the hell out of me. I believe its a big part of why we can't score goals at home having both fullbacks so poor going forwards too. Apart from the obvious midfield issues I have to say I was bitterly disappointed with the front four. On paper Mcgree, Azaz and Jones is imo our strongest 3 behind LL and I was quite looking forward to seeing them play together after the disapointment of Forss going off. Just a huge lack of quality. Compounded by Carrick insisting on keeping Azaz left and Mcgree central where both players are far worse than the other way round. I think Carrick has dropped a clanger with Azaz. He was by no means the worst player when he was dropped and he looks void of confidence now. But you seen today that azaz simple does not fit the 523, he had to change the formation entirely to try to get him into the game. The 523 has got us 10 points from 12 so hard for me to say he's dropped any kind of a clanger making those changes, azaz has just become a victim of it due to not suiting any of the roles required.

We seem to have varied between 3-4-1-2 and then it looked more like 3-4-2-1 against Birmingham with Latte Lath playing deeper. Back to 3-4-1-2 against Blackburn until Forss went off then it looked confused. I think we eventually went back to 3-4-2-1 with Azaz playing alongside McGree but they didn't seem to know where to go. In theory, 3-4-2-1 suits us well but none of our millions of forward players look comfortable playing as the right-sided #10. McGree, Azaz, Greenwood, O'Brien, Silvera all look lost on the right. Boro 86 800 2.7k
Agree Ipswich have been fantastic but have had a settled team. I still wonder what we would have done without our horrendous injury record. Ah well there is always next season. Mind you I will probably be saying the same thing next March! Im hoping for an exciting summer, renewed hope for next season It shows you how you speed is so vital to the game I hope Ipswich go up in one of the auto spot, after years stuck in the 3rd division (old money) & the season they've had they deserve to see it through Edited March 17, 2024 by Erimus74

Carrick switched to a back four in the second half and several players still looked lost and dysfunctional. Azaz was just one of them but the problem with him for many fans is that he is proven at this level yet has imploded since arriving here.
