Hopefully then they will recognise the differentiator that the Band provides in being instantly recognisable as Boro!

It's circular so that makes it a positive from me as it lends itself to all sort of merchandise use even down to the simple Beer mat. The Circle also lends itself comfortably to either a breast or cen

  • Pretty much agree with all this.ย  Prior to Charlton's white band in 1973, our kit had primarily been red with some sort of white element in the top half. Charlton's masterstroke was to formalise

That's something that's going to excite a lot of fans.

Really hope they don't pick a stinker.

Am looking forward to seeing the new design(s). This was something that Mark (MSF) raised with Boro when he was chairman. Steveย Gibson was definitely up for it, especially given the anniversary coming up.

There have been good designs over the years, never warmed to the present badge

Mentioned on another forum, it would be interesting if the club include the number of players, ie, 1150, who played for us in those 150 yearsย

I would like a circular badge personally. Think the best badges currently are round e.g. Villas new badge, Bristol City, Brentford, Brighton.

TBH I don't think the present shield would have been as bad if it didn't have those awful ribbons, but really there was no need to change itย

The current badge isn't helped by the fact that we have been inย the second tier for the vast majority of the time that it has been in use. The old circular badge is a call back to much more successful times, although if we did take inspiration from the old badge I still think it would need modernising.

Plus, there's so much you can do with a circle badge in merchandise! MFC beer mats, MFC frisbees, MFC alloy wheels!

Didn't they change it because they wanted to move away from the 1986 date? I mean, they didn't need to change the whole badge to reflect the change to 1876 but I feel like that was what they said was the reason they changed the badge at the time. I might be misremembering.

Have been asked if I'd be interested in being involved in this process, so hopefully it might go somewhere.. As per Boro Unger we've been lobbying for this for a while. Gibbo wasn't actually involved with the current badge believe or notย ๐Ÿคฃ

I'd have the existing lion instead of the one used in that design. Nice starting point though. There seems to be two trains of thought...something similar to to the design above or a slight re-design of the 1986 badge.

I'm really excited to see what they come up with.

For me, the lion has to remain the same as the current one, it has to be red and it has to have 1876 and Middlesbrough F.C on it.

I think there's scope for other details beyond that though, I'd like it to be circular and I'd love the Transporter Bridge to be on it, but they'reย not a deal breaker for me.

Yes during our European campaign it was mentioned by opponents that we'd done a lot for such a new club, as you say just change the dateย
