Boro v Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 (Ihiekwe (og), Jones)

Recommended Posts

Details

Teams – Boro v Sheffield Wednesday

Location – The Riverside Stadium

Competition – The Championship

Date – Monday 01st April 2024

Kick off – 15:00

Introduction

Welcome all, to the picture free match day thread. In place of a picture, I asked some celebrities their thoughts on the game:

Former president of the USA, Donald Trump: https://voca.ro/18YNtCJDktZQ

Jigsaw: https://voca.ro/1lusku6X8wU6

Current US President Joe Biden: https://voca.ro/1enU5230Tvyt

The Last Games

Boro: Southampton 1 – 1 Boro

It looked as though it was going to be ‘Bad Friday’ for the Boro when Armstrong put high-flyers Southampton ahead after 12 minutes. However, fortunately, the saints defence was as holy as their nickname and Latte Lath grabbed a deserved late goal in the game (with Alex Gilbert’s first assist for the club) to make it a thoroughly ‘Decent Friday’.

Sheffield Wednesday: Sheffield Wednesday 1 – 1 Swansea

Cadamarteri (easy for you to say) put the hosts 1 nil up in the first half. They came close to doubling their lead, hitting the woodwork, just before the Swans raised their mighty necks and substitute Lowe fired in to earn a deserved point for the visitors.

Form (all competitions - most recent last)

Boro: LLWWWDD

Sheffield Wednesday: WWWWLLD

The View From The Other Side

See here for the Owls forum. I’ve looked all the way round, but couldn’t see a Boro thread anywhere: https://www.owlstalk.co.uk/forums/forum/3-sheffield-wednesday-matchday/

The Un(ger)-Official Match Preview

With the Boro team ravaged by injuries, Michael Carrick will have his work cut out selecting a team + bench for the game (and for the remaining games of the season). Hopefully we will get to see a bit more of the academy players because of this and that we get our injury problems sorted for next season.

Sheffield had an impressive run of form in February/March, winning 4 games in a row, however they have hit a slightly sticky patch recently (Including a 6-0 drubbing away at Ipswich) and remain rooted in the bottom three, a whole 0 points from safety… (but 13 goal differences behind 21st place Birmingham). With them being so close to the area above the relegation zone (does that area have a name? The predicament zone??). We should expect a battling, if not head-turning, performance from the Owls. I’ll predict a 2-2 draw.

Talking Points

-       How many more serious injuries will we pick up before Monday?

-       What easter egg(s) have you got this year?

-       What day of the week would Middlesbrough FC be named after?

-       Team/score etc.

How many more serious injuries will we pick up before Monday?

I'm going with three more, Jones plus two more.

What easter egg(s) have you got this year?

None, I come from an era when we had eggs that tasted of chocolate and not these waxy, shiny, tasteless things, cobbled together by Global Corporations buying and cheapening everything.

What day of the week would Middlesbrough FC be named after?

Sunday, like our midfield, a day of rest.

Team/score etc.

I'm going for a 2-1 win but the line up will be determined by the amount of sick notes Carrick has on his desk and who he has left.

Eddie Holliday was the first Boro player to leave the Boro, sign for another club then resign for the Boro, which was the case when after playing 143 games, scoring 23 goals for Boro between 1957/1962 he signed for Sheff Weds playing for them between 1962/65 then resigned for the Boro for 1965/66 season, playing 26 games, scoring 4 goals
His registration numbers were 403 & 445

Should have done last 6 games for the form. We would be on top then

We're 9th in the form table over the last 6.

Obviously can't post it because of the weird restrictions on here right now.

Am aware that MFC are not showing the game live to home based fans but as there are Sky live games on Monday is there a chance that ths game might be on the red button facility?

SW desperate for points The Riverside is obviously a good place to come!

Hoping we put up a fighting display on Monday. Fear it'll be another makeshift team tho

🤞 Jones was just cramp and we see a couple make it who didn't yesterday (RVDB, McNair, even Hackney on bench).

But also worth giving some young lads a go, especially if we have a lead.

Please for Latte Lath. Gives 100% and starting to look the part now. Next year he could be lethal if fully fit and settled.

2-0 🤞

It's a bank holiday, so classed as a weekend, they can only show red button matches on midweek matches, sadly.

Next season should be a lot easier for you with far more Sky coverage.

I will assume Jones is out given its a quick turnaround in fixtures but VDB was “touch and go” for Saints game so will be positive and say he is fit to return.

Dieng

Ayling VDB Clarke Engel

Howson OBrien

Silveria Azaz Gilbert

With Forss and McGree out for season and Jones now also possibly facing time out, anyone think we could see O'Brien play in the “McGree role” in some of the 7 games remaining?

We are lacking personnel for them 3 attacking midfield areas (2 if we play 3 at the back) and the “McGree role” is where O'Brien was very effective for Huddersfield i believe.
