  • Downsouth changed the title to Ipswich V Boro

Further to the above if it is needed may as well get on with it but short and simple ok?

Saturday 13th April 2024

Venue Potman Road Ipswich

KO 1500hrs (3pm)

Ok off to the Tractor boys land to hopefully give Ipswich a scare

We are on a decent run but we all know that any glimmering hopes of getting into the play offs will end (or not) in East Anglia.

Ipswich stuttering trying to achieve auto promotion so maybe a good time to play them and besides we owe hem for the result at The Riverside.

However Ipswich play good stuff and have been very consistent this season and have not suffered with the injuries we have witnessed.

Usual stuff to ask but the big question is will we have the gumption to produce a better result than we did against Hull?

Sorry about the emergency thread but needs must

Its seldom i predict a defeat but i think Ipswich will have too much for us tomorrow. Bar the odd game,(Leeds & Norwich in particular) they have been very impressive all season. They have pace, creativity, unbelievable team spirit & most of all, goals throughout the side.

However they can be guilty of "faffing" around at the back so hopefully we can take advantage of that,

2-1 to the Tractor Boys (Jones)

Genuinely not overly fussed about the result of this one.

It'd be nice to keep the unbeaten run going, but as I said in the Hull thread, a part of me would like Ipswich to win to keep them in the automatic places ahead of Leeds.

I predict Boro will get well and truly ploughed by the Tractor Boys.

(Hey...at least I didn't say "Defeat is inevitable...")

Our record at Natalie Portman's Road hasn't been great historically, plus there is the small matter of our respective fortunes this season. Oh and I'd put a small wager on Morsy clattering a couple of our guys to give Carrick some more injury headaches.

OVERALL:                    W22  D16  L29

AWAY:                         W7    D7    L20

Last 10 (A):                 W2    D4    L4

(Back to 24th April 2002)

Boro's last win there was fairly recent, given the two teams haven't often been in the same division...a 2-0 victory during the Christmas period of 2018. Our biggest recent defeat was a 4-0 thumping in February 2013. Over their last 10 visits, Boro have scored 12, while conceding 17.

I feel defeat is more inevitable than usual (oops - sorry TJ) as Ipswich play 4-2-3-1, which means Carrick will likely find a way to mirror that, meaning Boro will be tidy and play some nice stuff in midfield, but will be toothless in front of goal.

Also motivation will be a big factor. Boro don't really have anything to play for, while Ipswich are still very much in contention to be league champions and also need the win to keep Leeds below them.

My Prediction: Ipswich 2 - 0 Middlesbrough

Ditto Tea Ciders thoughts that I'd rather lose to Ipswich to stuff Leeds, let's face it we aren't going anywhere this season. Other than that not really bothered, will be interesting to see who Carrick selects to be on the pitch.

Given that we won't have Ayling for the game after meaning no right back as Dijksteel clearly doesn't count, feels like we ought to go 3 at the back for this one. Doesn't look like Hackney will be risked as a starter. Not sure that Bangura is fit enough to be thrown straight back in so that probably implies something like.

Dieng

Ayling - RVDB - Clarke

Jones - Barlaser- Engel

Howson - O'Brien

Azaz

Latte Lath

Barlaser tended to play at the base of a 3 man midfield for Rotherham so if he does that, Howson and O'Brien can be midfield enforcers with Azaz at the tip of a 4-man midfield diamond.

Then, for Leeds, Ayling drops out unavailable and if we have a spare central defender fit (McNair or Fry) they come in. Failing that, Engel plays on the left of the three with Bangura as a wingback.

I don't think Carrick will do this.

I think we have a half-decent chance. Ipswich score and concede goals for fun at home. We score and concede for fun away,  so if we try to match them we'll probably end up losing 5-2. But if we set up in the classic low block with a threat on the counter we can pose a real problem. Both teams love it when the opponent tries to attack but Ipswich will have to play on the attack due to the circumstances so we can take advantage of that.

I have no interest in us hoping to lose in order to screw over Leeds. I want us to beat Ipswich and Leeds and let them sort it out between them.

Would be good to finish as high and strongly as possible if only to sell the club to new recruits in the summer. Prospective signings will be more keen if we can beat high flyers like Ipswich and Leeds.

I said earlier in the season that Ipswich would drop off as the season went on, but they haven't really. Excellent season from them and would be a real feat for them to get promoted automatically above the parachute payments clubs.

I reckon we'll lose it 2-1. Latte to score again.

Been there twice , seen us win 1-0 . Baird scoring with a header from about 20 yards . The other time was the day Dalian Atkinson beat us by himself, he scored 3 in a 4 nil hiding.

Tomorrow, I reckon 1 each. Clarke for us.
