I personally dont think we should be starting him. Nothing against him or his ability but he's already had most of an MLS season, two full friendlies and how many flights between those two games. We need to manage his recovery/workload.

That MLS season finished in June though.

I'd sooner be playing a 22 year old in great form than trying to rush back a 36 year old who's been injured a lot recently.

I'd sooner play him over Barlaser too, though it'd make more sense to bring him in than Howson to me.

That is very harsh Brunners I have never stated that and have praised him many times and hate is an awful word!

He is however and very often mentioned by others at times a lazy player who does not perform to his best which I can not understand

If you think he's lazy, you definitely haven't been watching us play. One of of his outstanding attributes is his work rate to get back and help with defensive duties.

What's your real issue with him?

Occasionally his end product isn’t quite up to scratch, but you can’t knock his work rate.

He’s also earned us 2 pens already this season resulting in 2 goals.

Matt please do not make it something that is not because I have no issue with Jones and I have seen him play many times as well you know!

He has many attributes but his biggest attribute is often lacking especially with delivery and taking his time when he has plenty of time.

Look through old MDT and see how many times folks have commented on him having a poor game for reasons unbeknown to all of us.

If he was consistent he would be player that Boro would have difficulty in keeping so yes he can be lazy at times but there again so can everyone else

I think the frustration with him for some creeps in with the inconsistency in his work rate which is possibly decision making related.

At times he can be awesome attacking at this level while at the same time then sprinting back covering Ayling or Dijksteel and putting in a brilliant tackle to break up an attack. At other times he looks as though he has switched off (as opposed to disinterested) and a passage of play just passes him by, which I guess is related to that brain freeze moment he had when for some bizarre reason he tried to pass the ball back to Dieng from half way inside the Deby half.

We are much better with him than without him by far but there's just that little bit more that can be squeezed out of him. If Carrick can manage it he might be another one going for £20M in the Summer.

you can take the player out of non league but you can't take the non league out of the player

always going to be harder to polish someone who hasn't come through clubs as a youngster I think than someone who managed to break through from grass roots later in life.

Always try to get views of opposition fans outside ground when possible and most of time Izzy gets a mention often with the view he can't have come cheap. Other teams fans have started to realise that we are not the old Boro and many look forward to seeing a game of "proper football". Because he never came through an academy, he will probably always be a bit unpolished but on his day he is great to watch and if he makes the odd Derby error, I can live with that as his movement in attack outweighs that to such an extent that it is in reality insignificant. Would like to see him and Doak swapping wings during games just to wear defenders down then use Burgzorg as sub when one tires, but even on his iffy days, his speed gives us an outlet to get up the pitch, so definitely more pros than cons. Also comes across as a decent guy, again perhaps due to his path to this level, so refreshing to see someone who isn't "entitled" and realises that he is lucky not to be asking if you want extra fries with your order 🙂

Does the two goals scored by Jones midweek mean that he has had his one in seven games good performance or can he take that performance into the PNE game, he should be looking forward to it I would hope?

He's such a frustrating player. On his day, he looks exceptional, but those days don't come around as often as they should at the top end of the Championship. I can see why people love him, but also why he gets so much stick - the catastophe against Derby didn't help his cause, since it effectively lost us a game we should have won.

I think Izzy will keep his place in the team, but a couple of uninspiring performances without goals or assists and he'll lose his place to Doak - potentially for some time, if the latter can find form quickly.

So many rumours of players being available again, likes of McGree, Howson,VDB, Forss even, but will we be peeved off that they are not ready for a return.

I've lost track of who's signed for us, who's injured and who's been away on international duty, so I'll be fairly relaxed when the teamsheet drops on Saturday. I hope we get one or two players back each week, though - after a fairly quiet September, we have five matches in October and then six in both November and December. We'll need to rotate heavily.

Will ELL be ready to unleash hell on PNE?

I do hope so!

Will Matty Clarke want to continue being top scorer and get himself another goal or two?

I do hope so!

Will we see goals from open play against PNE?

I do hope so!

Jones is definitely one of the least lazy players about.

Morris is still in America apparently at Colombus training ground

That's frustating, though I suppose he could just be waiting for his flight, there's an international airport in Colombus and the USA were playing in Ohio anyway.
