Boro V Sheffield United 1-0 (Latte Lath)

Recommended Posts

It won't be that extreme (yes I know you were kind of heating) but surely he has to swap personnel a little.

Clarke back in. Edmundson has been fine but wasn't at it yesterday... In another point Rav needs to sharpen up. A lot of shrugging of shoulders yesterday.

Midfield is a tricky one, Hackney had started to show his class but yesterday wasn't great. Morris looked jaded. But is Howson match fit.

Up front. Wow. Got to change it up, Lath and Azaz, so many misses it's beyond comical. Got to the point now where I don't even get out the seat when they have a chance... play Conway at no10. Doak and Mcgree in. So just one place. I think I'd go with this

Dieng

Ayling RvdB Clarke Borges

Morris Hackney

Doak Conway Mcgree

ELL (last chance)

If we remember last season ELL lost his place to Coburn and our season picked up. Coburn got injured, ELL came back in and went on a spree. I think he needs dropping and taken out of the spotlight. Same goes for Azaz, at the minute all he has is stats in his favour which is great but so far his time on Teesside has been unspectacular and underwhelming. He done the business at Plymouth but questions have to be asked why it's not happening here, tactics, set up, loss of form? whatever it is playing him through it hasn't worked and is unlikely to change unless something is changed.

Forss is the most reliable finisher at the club so I'd find a way to fit him in. Conway I'd trust with a chance more than Lath right now, he can play wide in a three like at Bristol City.

McGree is our best player and has to start, I'd have him further back to dictate things. Clarke back in for Edmundson too.

Play 433 and counter them.

                   Dieng

Ayling - VDB - Clarke - Borges

  Hackney - Morris - Mcgree

      Doak - Forss - Conway

I'd be dropping Ayling, he's been woeful and is living off last seasons burst of form. Clarke back in aswell, I don't think Edmundson has been bad by any stretch but Clarke is just better for me.

If Forss still isn't fit I'd go a 3 of Mcgree Doak and Conway with ELL on his last chance.

             Dieng

 Djik Rav Clarke  Borges

      Hackney Morris

 Doak Conway   Mcgree

               Lath

Someone suggested Doak from the left. When everyone is fit I'd be tempted to try that, get Forss on the right getting into the box. Doak seems pretty comfortable on either foot.

I noticed Ravs sulking as well. When the half time whistle went he was dragging his feet all the way to the tunnel. Morris shouted at him almost to say ‘come on, get your head up and get inside’. Probably a bit of immaturity from the young lad.

Yeah I'm sure that's all it is. Noticed it at the game and also at Watford when we conceded...

Feels like we need Howson back if only for the captains rallying call that he brings when things go wrong.

Praying for some change on Wednesday, don't want to lose to Wilder and we really need something to go out way.

Not knocking the Mackems but they're really getting the tub of the green (as well as been on it). We need a lucky win. Lath needs a lucky goal. Etc 🙏

I mentioned it in another thread but if this is the way Carrick is set on playing I’d love to see this given a try:

In Possession: 3-2-4-1

                  Dieng

       Rav - Clarke - Borges

         Hackney - Morris

 Jones - McGree - Conway - Doak

                     ELL

Out of Possession: 4-4-2

                  Dieng

  Jones - Rav - Clarke - Borges

McGree - Hackney - Morris - Doak

             Conway - ELL

Jones and Doak holding width on both sides of the pitch gives more space in the centre for McGree and Conway. It won’t happen but this would be magic. Essentially using the Giles approach with Isaiah Jones, would be the perfect role for him.

If you were going to play that way i'd play a third centre half in place of Borges. I'm still not certain what Borges strengths are if i'm honest but if we're moving to a back three in possession i'd rather have Clarke on the left and Fry central with Rav on the right.

I’d be fine with that but I wouldn’t be concerned who plays in the back 3. As long as the player Carrick is choosing to play the attacking role and get forward is actually capable of doing it, which Borges isn’t.

I think that could be the "tweak" that could turn our season around while maintaining the possessive passing play that Carrick wants.

The only alteration to that for me would be to play Edmundson until we know if Fry and/or Lenahan are actually available. Even then it's just a personal preference as to any three from five. I doubt however that Carrick will switch to a back three unless he's forced to, but after some underwhelming results and building pressure he might be willing to do something to get things back on track.

-----------------------Dieng

Dijksteel - Rav VDB - Clarke - McCormick

--------------Hackney - Morris

Doak ------ McGree ------------ Jones

--------------Conway

Doak and Jones to alternate wings.

But I genuinely hate 4231 - I'd love us to play two up front.  Those formation seem to be out of fashion now though.
