Boro V Sheffield United 1-0 (Latte Lath)

Recommended Posts

This is a quote from the Palace manager after their defeat last night. Could be a Carrick line:

"It's tough at the moment, to be honest. But nobody is blaming anybody. Very often we are in the final third and making the wrong decisions. This is due to a lack of confidence. We are humans. It’s time for hugging the players, not for kicking them.”

If someone at MFC doesn't leave a tray of sandwiches in the away dressing room I will be very disappointed.

if we win by a ref decision they need to send a plate of them straight over for the refs dressing room for when he barges in for sure :classic_laugh:

I will get some enjoyment if at the end of the match he has his sour face on.

I hope we get a victory and begin a run but a defeat be very damaging with Norwich to follow on Sunday.  Lose this we be back on same points at same stage as we were last season be another disaster of a start to the season. I think we have a half decent team just their confidence is very low they are buckling under the weight of expectations many a boro side suffers from. Want to see Clarke in for Edmondson. Dijksteel and Jones in for Ayling and Doak. Mcgree in for Hamilton. Then Conway for azaz with Latte up top

Doaks the only of the front 4 I wouldn't be touching. He's special, a great outlet.

Doak was poor on Saturday, so i wouldn't say he's untouchable personally. I don't think any of them are immune nor should they be given recent results. I actually think Doak will get more space against Sheff United, so i'd keep him in the side, same with Azaz. McGree and Conway come in for Hamilton and Lathe.

Doak puts me in mind of Traore, totally different styles of course but there needs to be more joined up thinking with him. I'm not having a go as he's just a young lad learning the ropes but at the minute we need some joined up thinking especially at the sharp end.

Right now Carrick needs results and Doak could be the game changer but equally he could be pacified with some close attention or even just runs and step overs but no final balls into ELL or Azaz. Mind you even if he put them on a plate for them they'd still bloody miss.

I'd restore Jones for this one or better still play them both on each wing swapping over but Carrick's not going to change his plans and use all the pitch so Jones it is for me plus the lad has played a lot of football lately.

This is the biggest game Carrick has faced as manager. The fans are quickly losing confidence in him,and he must be worried what Gibson is thinking. We are playing a team.managed by Wilder, someone utterly reviled by Boro fans. If we lose, then I think Carrick will have lost the fans. They will turn. Remember when we lost patience with Robson and the stadium erupted with " you don't know what you're doing". Venables was swiftly brought in to steady the ship. Which he did. I think tomorrow night could  be another " Venables" moment. Somehow he has to get this team to produce an emphatic winning performance. Nothing else will do.

Mostly draws in the Championship, with Watford losing to Leeds, so that's good for us if we can manage to get a win tomorrow.

A win keeps us in the mix and level on points with Norwich, a defeat leaves us level on points with Derby and Oxford and probably 12th.

This game will have a massive impression on perception as to how our season is going compared to plans and expectations to date. An opportunity for Carrick to come good and prove the naysayers wrong.
