Do we keep Carrick if we

A) Don’t make the playoffs

B) Make the playoffs offs but get pipped due to poor management. Specifically the usual: no subs before 70 mins, no plan b or inability to break down a low block.

For a Manager learning and improving my beef regarding Carrick is that I don't see an improvement this season, I'm just seeing the same old, same old. As a "for instance", watching the Arsenal/Ne

I think keep him unless we have a Mowbrayesque style collapse. I don't think he has got the best out of the squad but at the same time I think when we do click some of the football is outstanding.

I do feel he needs to be more adaptable and find a plan B. As his current problem has been not being able to adjust enough when Plan A isn't working.

How do you blame Carrick for players mistakes causing goals conceded? How do you decide if poor coaching is the problem?

is selling Lath and Doak being recalled down to Carrick, will their replacements be guaranteed to be as effective for less outlay than recouped? Will their pace be replicated?

You buy and sell in the summer window when you can bed in players, mid season can cause disruption it isn’t always a positive.

Carrick is the best thing to happen for a while, who do you replace him with and why?

The only scenario where Carrick isn't our Manager is where he goes to a Prem club.

As it stands right now, Cooper is his replacement.

IF Luton part ways with Edwards he will enter consideration, always been a Scott preference, even over Carrick originally from memory.

Spot on 👍

I'd be more focussed on changing the coaching setup if we don't achieve promotion, or at least bringing someone else in experienced to work alongside Carrick. It's only minor adaptions needed.

As much as his laid back approach to interviews etc. can annoy many supporters, it's definitely the correct way to go about your business in this division. It's good for the squad.

Easy keep for me. We could do better for a manager, theoretically. We also could, and have, do/done a lot worse. The guy plays entertaining football to a moderately successful level, while bringing no drama off the pitch. And multiple players who have signed for us have specified Carrick as a reason why they chose Middlesbrough. He's not perfect but I'm very glad we have him.

Carrick stays in most circumstances however if we miss out on the play offs, i think all his credit will be gone with our support. He needs to learn from his mistakes because the same mistakes are happening this season that happened last season...

1. Poor start to the season.

2. Poor home form.

3. Inability to change the game from the bench.

4. Poor defensively.

Add to that this season that he's not getting the best from our squad.

I agree with with @MarkT73 i think in the medium term the only way he goes is if he leaves for another club.

I think this is very much the reason why a lot of people are so afraid of moving Carrick on. It's better the devil you know and i can understand that.

I don't see Gibson looking to replace Carrick, especially given some of our recent managerial faux pas. However, I also don't see signs of Carrick learning on the job or adapting. We are still inconsistent, injury-plagued, brittle and prone to self-combusting. Given the squad we have, we should be playing better more of the time, if not necessarily higher up the table.

If we sell our best players this month and bring in prospects, I can't blame Carrick for walking. If he leaves, he does so with my very best wishes, but given the talent we've had at our disposal under his tenure, abject failures like the two Coventry play-offs and the Plymouth/Sheff Wed/Cardiff games can't be excused away. The players do what the coaching staff tell them, which is apparently waste all your set pieces and never clear the ball into Row X when you can fanny around in your own box.

For me its the usual question: Who could we realistically get to replace him...who could do a better job?

I 100% agree Carrick has flaws in his management style. For me he needs the benefit / assistance of some older, more experienced coaches, both to help with day-to-day training and on matchdays.

I feel like a broken record, I've said this so many times, but I also 100% feel Boro need to have a complete clear-out of the coaching staff and replace them with better personnel. Ex-players who are "nice blokes that get on with the lads", just isn't cutting it, as far as I 'm concerned.

Who those people might be I've no idea, but given the Man Utd connection, I keep thinking about the kind of coaches Fergie had during his time in charge. They were all experienced coaches, as I recall. No recently retired former players there.

Unless we can identify anyone better, we stick with Carrick. We could do a lot worse. Besides, we apparently have a "Master Plan" in place that we need to stick to. Unfortunately, unless we change our coaching methods, I don't foresee a great improvement.

I'd give Carrick next season, but if we're still in a similar situation, this time next year, for me that is a sign that the manager and coaching staff need a complete change, if the club is to progress any further.
