Boro v Blackburn FA Cup 0-1

Recommended Posts

Well that was a big pile of poo.

While I'm not hugely upset at an early Cup exit, this was a winnable home tie. I don't think Rovers were a significantly better team. IMO it was more a case of Boro being too passive and giving them confidence to come at us (after a pretty drab first half).

Rovers found some extra impetus second half and they began creating some really good chances (after hitting the woodwork in the first 45).

I still don't know how Weimann failed to convert that gift when he robbed Glover and had an open goal to aim at. Made amends with a perfectly-timed run to pick up a deflected cross. Had all the time and space he needed to thump it home, courtesy of Boro's AWOL midfield.

Both teams were disappointing first half, but Blackburn were the better team second half. Think they sussed that Boro weren't really up for the game and decided to take us on. Think we suffered from Hamilton's lack of attacking play and Burgzorg being used as a striker. Other than that though, no real excuses.

Thought Dijksteel and McCabe had very good games. Barlaser tried hard but to no avail. McGree had Boro's 2 best goal attempts (until Hackney's late on-target effort) but was far below his string-pulling, play-making best.

Looking at the big picture, I'm not that bothered about going out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle. But I am disappointed with the manner we went out in.

I've no issues with Carrick changing the team, but he really needs to learn to put square pegs in square holes.

In the minority I know but I can see a parting of the ways come the end of the season. A manager who's stubbornness ignorance means he isn't open to change, improvement and eradicating mistakes will not develop as a manager.

For Carrick this penny is dropping with increased numbers......

Honestly I don’t think the penny has even started dropping with carrick. He looks like the statue every game. Nothing changes for the positive during games. Sometimes I think he sees a completely different game.

On the plus side, that mark on his face seems to have improved. Always a positive if you look hard enough.Cant think of too many others however

I’m still very much Carrick in but I would like him to inspire our players a bit more. Maybe he is a bit too laid back and dour. I think a lot of folk on here have talked about getting better back room staff in and I think I’m on board with that now. We need a crazy Steve Harrison type

Thought McCabe and Dijksteel had good games.

I actually thought Hamilton had started the match well but it was downhill from there.

The biggest take from today is that we can't afford not to sign a keeper or to just rely on what we have if Doak and/or Latte Lath leave.

very disappointed to be out of the cup already, at home to another championship side hoping to finish in the play-off places!

I mean looking at the team and set-up, were they really arsed?

the cups no longer get a look when you're chasing promotion to the top flight.
