For me, the problem today was lack of pace. We have Latte Lath, Doak, Bangura and Dijksteel that are quick. Bangura is never available, so that leaves us 3 pacy players and one played today.

If you don't have pace in your side, you need physicality and organisation,  they aren't our strong points.

We miss Morris and he is a Mustoe type player I think, snapping around getting his foot in.

I think we need a Leadbitter, Hamilton (Gary), Mick Kennedy type

We are not playing to our pacey players if we continually let opponents get back in to position. We've reverted to faffing about rather than incisive forward passes

To be fair, if he has worked on it in training he shouldn't need to be animated on the touchline

He does. When the players stroll around disinterested and not doing what they’ve been told he should rectify it. Unless of course they are doing exactly what he’s told them.

I agree but when Latte Lath came on, he chased a ball down to the byline and kept it in, then Gilbert shot over.

At least genuine pace makes defending teams worried

On the plus side, that mark on his face seems to have improved. Always a positive if you look hard enough.Cant think of too many others however

Funny how it resembled Diengs right fist

Carrick has said in his interview he’s going to focus on what we did bad today and work on it in preparation  for Saturdays game 🙄

With the idea of improving….right….right

Our fullbacks never open themselves up and play the ball down the channel. They alway play back or in-field. Opposition teams know this so they squeeze up, put us under pressure and invariably win the ball off us in our own half. Our only chance today came from a ball over the top.

Indeed. Wasn't disagreeing about need for pace. Just that we don't use it.

Fast passing, forward passing. God forbid, but maybe a ball over the top or thru the channels.

Play to the pace to expose them

Instead we try to score a perfect passing goal. Sideways sideways and repeat

Like I said, if he does work on it in training next week then he won't need to be animated on the touchline - as it will be going fine

Weird philosophy. Do you really mean that you don’t need to change things during a game as you can always work on it next week?

Working on it next week isn’t going to change things in a game going on. What use is a manager that can only change things next week instead of seeing things that need changing in-game. Might as well sit in the stands then.

Not too bothered to be out of the Cup as it reduces our fixture congestion and with our ability to injure Players it's probably kinder to the squad.

I saw a decent bit of ball control from Hamilton and linking up well with Dijksteel and Gilbert but the lad needs to add something to his game. Just being there and not giving the ball away isn't what we need from a wide player, he needs to be a creator, the odd flash of brilliance, be bold, take a risk but I suspect it's not what he is being coached to do and so what we see right now is what we get from the lad. I had hoped to see a little something extra from him this afternoon but he looks as though he is playing within himself.

Overall both sides looked dour throughout the first half but Blackburn upped it in the second half while we just carried on in the same old metronomic Carrick way. I think we had enough to get a result (or at least should have had) in the team that started as they were knocking the ball around nicely and with confidence but that's both the best of Carrick and the worst of Carrick. That's it, there isn't anything else, knock the ball around, keep possession but unless the opposition have a Boro style defensive calamity in them nothing is going to happen. Just keep passing around a low block while we wait for our defensive howler.

In a passage of play in the second half Blackburn were attacking and we regained possession in our 18 yard box. There were seven Rovers Players in our half which meant there can only have been three in their own half so did we launch a long clearance to turn them over? Nope, we just passed it around from the back and passed ourselves into trouble because they were still pushed up high and straight on top of us.

There seems to be an almost cult like fear now if someone tries to do anything other than pass it out from the back. I'm not advocating Pulis ball but Carrick ball is now starting to hack me off with the predictable nature of what we watch, when it works its pretty but it has all the resilience of a paper bag in a thunderstorm. The repetitive nature of the same old failings (especially at home) has now worn very thin. Will something change? I don't think so. Will Carrick assess and learn? Nope, definitely not, that much has become crystal clear.
