Boro v Blackburn FA Cup 0-1

Recommended Posts

Just recalled another amusing part of the game yesterday. Fairly deep into the 2nd half we won a free kick in their half in a good crossing position. Hackney stood over it. The whole ground watched Barlaser stride over to the ball and saw Hackney step away. This was followed by groans from every stand

McCabe looks a useful player and his performance was well beyond his years.

Thought he played well too, but I don't think we'll see much more of him this season mind, would like to think we might

I didn’t go yesterday. It’s a 4 hour round trip for me that I do all home matches but it’s just so dull at the moment. No atmosphere. Boring play. Awful home form. Feeling that we’re going to lose our best players in Jan. We’re 5th in the league but this feels like a mid table nothing season - no momentum on the pitch or in the stands.  I don’t think anyone really believes we can go up and that will lead to another rebuild in the summer.  It’s a bit meh really isn’t it?

Thought he oozed confidence along with a few drag backs that got him (and us) out of a few tight situations which is perfect for Carrick's playing us into trouble tactics.

It's a very strange phenomenon at the minute for all the reasons you listed. Under Stan Anderson we kind of just accepted this as the norm with no expectations. Big Jack ruined all that by getting us promoted and then my generation realised just how dull treading water in the second tier actually was. We have had a series of ups and downs since, the lows of '86 and highs of Robbo promotion and Cup Finals then Schteeve taking us to Cardiff and Eindhoven. The Tartan fiasco followed by hopes that local hero Mogga would deliver us. Even the promotion under Karanka was nail-biting but euphoric in the end but it wouldn't be Boro unless we stank out the Premiership the following season and as a Bob Mortimer opined, "Boro turned up, farted and left".

Monk, the less said the better, same with Pulis and let's pretend Woodgate never happened. Warnock arrived, saved us and then Covid nearly killed us. Wilder could have and should've but couldn't keep his ego in his pocket. Then enter Carrick, saying and doing all the right things but stagnating and blinkered over time and sadly now close to looking like a beleaguered Robbo or lost Southgate. Like Southgate, he has us in a highish league placing yet something is misfiring and just isn't sparking into life, and like Southgate he I think could eventually become a Coach of some repute but right here right now something has to break, be it a Eureka moment from himself or another El Tel to get us firing again even if it's remote and under the veil of secrecy.

Successful sides have their Home as a Fortress, for some bizarre reason Carrick has flipped that with an excellent Away form but dire and hard to watch at the Riverside.

half the team cant tackle. squad of passive robotic footballers. not  exactly the squad you want to throw caution to the wind and go hammer and tongs in home games.

They look like they don't have real passion for the game, their team mates,or the fans. Yesterday they looked as if they just couldn't be bothered. All this stems from Carrick. It won't be long now before the fans turn. The next sub standard home performance and I think it will be all over for him.

Regardless of your own opinion, you have to be utterly clueless and devoid of any understanding of how things work to think that gibson will sack Carrick after one more bad home performance.

Your absolute hard-on for sacking Carrick is hilarious mate. Did he refuse to sign an autograph for you or something?

Boro have been a paradox this season. Capable of brilliant, breath-taking football, banging in goals for fun, combined with really dull, sleep-inducing performances where we look like we could play all week and not score.

Its been a weird one for sure. We're doing some things well, but are horribly deficient in other areas (notably defensively).

For me this Summer is Carrick's last chance to show he can put together a squad that can really stand out and challenge for promotion. If we're in the same position this time next season, serious questions need to be asked.

I think he's getting maybe a bit too many plaudits mainly due to the flack that Barlaser gets. McCabe was ok but nothing more. It was a terrible performance all round but he wasn't exactly pulling strings in midfield or breaking up play. He could have a good future at the club and yesterday was decent. Think it was a bit telling of the whole teams performance when he made that risky, yet succesful backwards drible in his own box sorrounded by two blackburn attackers and then proceeded to send the ball 10 yards beyond Dijksteel for a Blackburn throw in. Making a drible like that in that position obviously shows confidence, but Fry showed confidence with a backheel a week ago that was punished and cost two points so it's a bit risky and all goes out the window when the pass afterwards was as crap as it was.
