The country loved the thought of a underdog going all the way in the cup. Memorable days there where. . Now a waste of effort to be fair, because the quality gap from championship to premiership is unbridgeable.

We have scored 15 hat tricks in FAC  ties with 5 of those coming in the 3rd round FAC 3rd round. A four goals haul in a qualifying round & a 5 goal haul too

23/2/1901 - Alexander 'Sandy' Robertson scored our 2nd league hat trick but first ever Boro hat trick as a league club when he bagged a treble at Linthorpe road against Kettering Town in a 3rd round 5-0 win

14/1/1920 - George Elliott scored his 8th of 12 Boro hat tricks when he recorded our 7th FAC 3rd round  treble as a league club when we beat Lincoln City 4-1 at Ayresome Park

9/1/1926 - James McCelland scored all 5 goals in a 5-0 hoe win over Leeds United in the FAC 3rd round, becoming the 3rd different Boro player to achieve this

9/1/1965 - Jimmy Irvine scored his one & only Boro hat tricks when he recorded our 12th FAC 3rd round treble as a league club when we beat Oldham Athletic 6-2 at Ayresome Park

26/11/1966 - John O'Rourke scored his 2nd of 4 Boro hat tricks when he recorded our 13th FAC treble as a league club when we beat Chester 5-2 at Sealands road

15/11/1886 - Bernie Slaven scored his 1st of 7 Boro hat tricks when he recorded our 15th FAC 3rd round  treble as a league club when we beat Blackpool 3-0 at Ayresome Park

At the moment there have been 21 players have made their Boro debuts in the FAC, with Craig Johnston being the first in a 3-2 home win over Everton back in 1978

6/1/2007 - Seb Hines v Hull City City won home 4-3

8/1/2020 - Caolan Boyd-Munce v Mansfield Town won away 3-2

I hate the way the FA Cup has been devalued. It was a fantastic competition. Third round - I believe I'm correct- always the first Saturday of January.

This has now gone. Competition sold out completely to tv. Games on last night, tonight, tomorrow, Sunday - can't be arsed to check on Monday!

Complete farce and dilution of this once stellar competition.

Yep. Its not just money ruining the sport, with ridiculous wages & transfer fees. The game is also beholden to TV when it comes to scheduling.

For me things need to be kept sacred, remember huddled round the radio listen to the draw, now its like a foitball chatshow during teams drawn out of the hat, all games kicking off at 3. Then teams were allowed to betittle the cup with playing a full team of fringe players & the powers to be alllowed it as it was more important to finish 4th bottom of the PL than a good cup run

I'd rather win the Cup than be in the Play Offs though I'd rather win the Play Offs than win the Cup. One is a memorable day out and a memory that will last forever the other puts so much more money into the Club's coffers tat it makes it far more sustainable and viable for a much longer period. Plus like many of us on here, we have to remember that SG is knocking on a bit and there are no guaranteed benefactors waiting in the wings.

ITV talking about how Aston Villa always get knocked out in the third round is quite annoying considering they literally beat us in the third round a year ago.

I'd like to give it a good go tomorrow. As we've seen from the accounts, good cup runs bring a lot of dosh in to the club in gate/tv money. You don't have to win the thing for it to be a benefit to the club. And it's exciting getting to the latter stages of course. 

Speaking to a bburn supporting colleague, they have already started shedding players in the Jan window, so will likely be fielding a weakened team.  2-1 Boro.

Looking out the window there has been a serious frost overnight and I reckon its questionable if the game will go ahead unless Boro have been heating the pitch all night but I'm not aware that we have any type of warm air cover.
