Plastic Goat 565 875
Echo and Gazette articles laying the blame squarely on Carrick, and so they should. He's been given a fairly easy ride up to now but I think they can sense change coming. Carrick is simply not up to the job.He never was and now the journos are getting stuck in.

Old Codger 4,161 4.8k
The decision has probably already been taken. Replacing him late in the season would have been too much of a gamble but the silence is becoming louder .....
pikerman 1,461 2.5k
I think we are entering the end game of Carrick tenancy and in fairness he can hardly complain
sanddancer 2,089 6.2k
Carrick has nothing to offer but neither do the back room staff. The club needs a clear out. Not impressed with transfers either.
Plastic Goat 565 875
The press usually toe the line particularly the Gazette. I think it looks as if they know something of significance.

It would be stupid tbh, the season is binary now either it’s already over or we sneak in the play offs still. Sacking him at best we hope the caretaker does a mark venus but it would be woodgate and grant in charge probably. The players do seem to try for Carrick so there’s always still the outside chance of something happening so mays we’ll just go with it.

Yeah, what we can take from that article though is the local press seem to think a change will likely be made if things don't go our way from here. In the summer almost certainly. The only way he could save his job is an immediate up turn in performances on the pitch and a play off final with an unlucky loss or ofc a win.
Plastic Goat 565 875
I've always thought he will see the season out but it looks like he will be replaced.

Where you getting this from? Nothing to suggest anything imminent
Nobby Barnes 482 861
Carrick lost his 2 best forward players at the same time through no fault of his own. Where would we have finished with ELL and Doak in the side ? I really don't think it's a given that he leaves in the Summer !
GrimsbyBoro 2,325 2.9k
There’s been a notable change in the local press since the window closed. Almost like they are being fed information from within the club with the intent to distract from other failings. 1

If Carrick could tactically manage games out we would have had several more points on the board and have been serious contenders and with it a good chance that ELL would have remained believing that he could be playing Premiership Football. That said those points and games were thrown away like confetti with both Doak and Ell in the side so even with our "best" players Carrick still couldn't get any consistency or resilience from his team. If somehow he remains, (which I very much doubt) the start of next season had better not be a repeat of his previous two season starts when he waits until October before his side look to have any semblance of organisation albeit poor at that. Starting a season with booing and abuse won't be a great look for the club, Gibson or the Players let alone Carrick himself. He still has some kudos away from from the microscope of Teesside, he needs to get out before he loses that.
