If he didn't want to take over at that point then I don't want him getting the job in the summer.

If he did it because he was waiting for a better offer, then I would agree. If he did it because he wanted a break, that’s another matter. Wouldn’t it be better to get a manager fresh and hungry again than one still coming to terms with a sacking? If he did it because his co tractor meant he would forfeit a lot of the sacking compensation, then I can understand that as well. Who wouldn’t like to get sacked with a huge payoff and have a long break before starting again.

He'd already had a break hadn't he?  He'd been out of work for 3 months when we'd have been talking to him.  I'm sure he and lots of other people would like lots of money and a nice long break.  That's up to them really but I wouldn't be hiring them.

Is 3 months that long when your previous jobs for his entire career have kept him away from his family/kids the majority of weekends and a lot of evenings?

He'd only had his previous job for a few months.  If he needed a break after that then presumably he'll need another break a few months into his job here as well, in which case why would we bother?  Or, far more likely, him refusing to take the job, if he was indeed offered it, had nothing at all to do with him needing a break.

If he turned it down to get a longer pay-off from Leicester, I can't blame him too much.

Presumably he'd have made less money joining us than he would have sitting on his severance.

I wouldn't blame him either but I also wouldn't hire him.

I think we should not be so precious tbh, from a totally neutral point of view what he’s done is the right thing for himself. For a start someone on here did mention his Leicester pay runs till the summer, plus he probably has had other enquiries, I think all 3 relegated clubs will have interest in him (I think McKenna will get a bigger job in summer and leave Ipswich).

But even just interest from Southampton would be enough if the other teams stick with what they have. Plus we probably aren’t the only championship team showing an interest and he could even be on the short list of teams like Wolves, West Ham and Fulham (their manager rumoured to be off in summer). It’s all guess work yes but let’s be real he will have some kind of interest beyond just us.

Can’t really blame the guy if he’s picking up Leicester wages and waiting until the summer to fully weigh up his options, it just seems like something anyone would do.

There is also other scenarios where he was willing to join but Gibson vetoed it until summer to stick with Carrick. Or maybe we have another candidate in mind who’s available in summer.

To many variables and unknowns to point fingers and make judgements.

Ah yes nothing better than being lulled into a false sense of security when everything else that went before is quickly forgotten.

george friend is getting the job, he has already vacated his last job ready to take over when we need him

He was DOF wasn't he? My first thought was Gibbo will replace Scott with him if he goes to Palace. It's tongue in cheek but would anyone be that surprised?

He did a pretty bad job at Bristol rovers and didn’t last the season, it sounds like a terrible idea. I’d honestly prefer Gary Gill back, the players he tried to get in all went on to be decent (Ziyech, Praet, a rb I can’t remember the name), Even De Roon had a pretty good career after leaving.

I think it doesn’t work like that. The logic is an ex-employee should try to find another job. If he doesn’t “try” then the previous employer can try to refuse to pay compensation. Assuming he is “trying” then he continues to be entitled to compensation. If he gets another job at half the salary, then he should still get the other half from the old employer. Their liability is to put him back in the same financial position as if they hadn’t sacked him.

Carrick lost his 2 best forward players at the same time through no fault of his own.

Where would we have finished with ELL and Doak in the side ?

I really don't think it's a given that he leaves in the Summer !

Hang in there son because you may convince somebody losing two forwards was his downfall.
