I'm more excited to see the post saying he's gone than I was for this game.

Was he watching him just-a walking down the street?

  • This club/management/team has sucked all hope out of me. I have no faith in them whatsoever.

Only 12 players played for both sides Erimus... thought it would be more tbh 😲

Hi Nobby, just the names I've checked back, probably is more over the years

Best between both clubs is the then Ian Gibson, back then Boro's Juninho

It's my birthday tomorrow. So hoping for a bday miracle from the Boro (and Burnley and Sheffield) please!

I'm convinced we'll get the results we need elsewhere and fluff our lines though. We don't seem to have any mental fortitude. No bite, no fight. Just throw the same players out with the instructions to stay calm whatever happens.

Maybe the plan is to get promoted next year to coincide with the 150 year anniversary. Must admit the 150th celebrations would be a lot more fun if we'd just been promoted, rather than us going up this year and getting relegated for that season. Happy 150th Boro....

Coburn 90+4 min winner

Could you imagine that happening, that alone would terminate MC

Poster over on FMTTM saying Carrick going is all done, regardless of tomorrow with Cooper to be announced. Makes sense and not a surprise, but interesting timing for it to be leaked.

While I hope it's true I'd question, leaked or rumoured?

Of course it doesn't make sense.  Why would they bother keeping him on if he's already gone?  Why would he be sacked if we get promoted?  "We don't want you here so much that we are going to bin you even if we get promoted but we don't want you gone enough to actually let you go before the end of the season."

Of course it is but sadly too many on here read this stuff with glee.

Not going to be able to watch the game tomorrow so will be checking the score on my phone before having a read through the forum later on to get a flavour of the game.  For no reason at all I think we are going to win and qualify for the play offs allowing us to continue what has been a fairly weird season for a little while longer.  If we end up losing then I think Carrick will be out the door over the next few days.

I’m guessing it is just a rumour - but why doesn’t it make sense? Quite possible his contract has big bonuses in for reaching playoffs and for getting to final and for winning. Could be something in the extension that he had that made a big difference where he finished in league last year and this year. In other words Gibson said “put your money where your mouth is Are you confident in getting us into playoffs and promoted - if so, make your contract have bonuses or notice period dependant on getting to pay-offs”. Sack him before it’s mathematically impossible and he can claim he is due the bonuses etc.  Not saying that is case, but it would make financial sense.  As for getting promotion - well I don’t suppose Gibson is really that different to us, and who amongst us has any confidence we will get promoted, or even if we did that Carrick has nous to keep us up.

Not sacking him to avoid having to pay him bonuses for reaching the play-offs, only to sack him after he's reached the play-offs wouldn't make any sense.

There's no chance we're sacking Carrick if we're in the semi-finals after tomorrow.

Any change would be done after the season is over.

TeaCider has already answered it.  If we've already made the decision to sack him no matter what then the financial side of it is irrelevant.  We've taken that into account because we are going to sack him come what may, and that obviously includes if we happen to get promoted.  Financially it doesn't make sense, and it certainly doesn't make sense in any other way that I can see.  You're basically saying that Gibson wrote the season off in February.  I suppose he might have done so but that to me would be a really odd thing for the owner of the club to do, and would obviously call his judgement into question. There's also the obvious point to make that if we did get promoted then he'll have proven Gibson to be wrong - by definition Carrick will have been good enough to achieve what Gibson had decided he couldn't.  Not only that but the rumours suggest that it was some senior players who talked Gibson around so if that's the case then surely that infers that Carrick was going to be sacked in February?  That in turn suggests that the financial side of things was irrelevant, that Gibson hadn't given up on the season, and that therefore the decision wasn't already made.  Maybe it's just me but I would find it extremely awkward to be in the position of everyone knowing that he's losing his job regardless but then continuing on anyway.  I mean even the Robson/Venables thing wasn't decided until after the season was finished but here we've already sorted the next manager with a few months to go?  It's not even that I couldn't see Carrick leaving even if we did win the play offs, it's just that I think that is a decision that would be made after the fact not months beforehand.
