Although I will say it was mostly psychological thinking I’ll either make some money and be a bit gutted it’s not Cooper/Rohl or I’ll be happier with the appointment haha

I think at Luton he had to play to their strengths which is a physical approach and he showed his adaptability. He will come here wanting to play more his style of football which he couldn’t play at Luton

I'm not going to pretend I'm not underwhelmed. I'm not impressed by his record, he's got a worse points per game than Carrick in this division. I'm not enthused by the way he had his Luton team play, and there was an air of predictability about him being appointed, anyone who's paid any attention since Scott took over could have seen this coming. 

His man management and ability to foster a togetherness are potentially good pro's, as that was also one of the key positives under Carrick. But yeah, it feels like a side-step from Carrick rather than an improvement.

I was hoping we'd make a bit of a statement hire, someone who would get people to sit up and take notice. Someone who you go "OK, Boro mean business here." But I can't help but feel it's more business as usual. 

I'll still buy my Boro Live pass, and if the shirt is nice I'll get one, and I'll back the gaffer, but it's just uninspiring.

But that’s apparently the reason next season will be a struggle, because the likes of Wrexham, Birmingham, sheff utd, Leicester, Ipswich and Southampton will have money to spend.

We have an apparently good recruitment team and now a manager who can get more out of a team, plus the money to back it up. My expectations are high and I don’t see why they shouldn’t be. I’m not expecting to challenge top 2 or be encamped in the top 6 but 100% I think we should be around 6th place.

I think it's more often than not that it could be defined as a failure, for sure.

Woodgate's season and Carrick's first full season stand out to me as seasons I was more convinced we'd miss out. Warnock's full year is probably the closest to that other than those 2 and I think on the balance of it he was selling, we should certainly have been aiming for it.

I think this season is going to be tougher than last season to achieve playoffs but Edwards is going to have a full preseason to work with the squad. There's Lath money, potentially some more Rogers and Spence money, presumably Hackney money to come. There's some sterling reasons our recruitment can go well if handled correctly.

I would say that last season I wanted to see us challenging the top 2 like Sunderland did for a period, where finishing in the playoffs was still finishing in a strong position. This season I'd expect playoffs to be the target. The resources are there to be in that fight but I think it might be a tougher fight, as well as Edwards adapting to an approach that works for us. There's no doubt in my mind that this squad is not built to be what Luton were the year they went up so there's going to have to be some changes to work through.
