Really?

Just 'maybe' - when he took over a team that had a bottom 6 budget and not only had them finish higher than they had been in many years, but actually got them promoted to the PL.

Can't believe you think he only Just 'maybe' got more out of them.....unbelievable.

1.4ppg to 2.0 ppg.

He got Luton to 3rd with 5 points more than the previous season so yea a bit more. If he does that here then great he’s achieved the goal and that season he did do well. I’m just not sure he’s this miracle worker who went into Luton and completely transformed them as is made out.

It’s actually exactly the same as Carrick did here, improved us by 3 positions and 5 points. He just didn’t get us over the line like Edwards did there. Again not to discredit what Edwards achieved, I just think the differences aren’t really that big.

You could have made the exact same arguments for Nathan jones and he really did transform Luton. Look what’s happened to him since, is it really the be all and end all to judge Edwards on?

Seriously?

A bit more?

He quite literally took over a team, improved them, got them to their highest finish in god knows how many years....and not only that, he actually got them promoted....all whilst doing it with a bottom 6 budget.

If that's just a 'bit more'...then god knows what is a 'lot more'.

Maybe he'd have had to win the PL the following season with 100pts for you to even give him the slightest bit of praise and acknowledgment.

I’m all in on Rob Edwards, I love the fact we’re bringing in some randomer from Ebsfleet and Michael Beale potentially. It’s so misfit and random that it will probably work! In Scott we trust.

Just a little more news on Edwards and Williams that was told earlier the same person has just said Williams looking for a house up north nothing mentioned anywhere in press about Williams have to see if any truth in what he’s said again

Just as an interesting tidbit Rob Edwards made his professional debut in 2002 in a 1-0 win over us!

He also has a cousin, Sean Parrish, who’s a first team coach at Shrewsbury. That’ll be our replacement when Beale goes to manage Watford 😂

Act as exasperated as you want but yes it is just a bit more. I’m not sure why you think I’m not giving him credit, I just don’t think he’s this footballing messiah that you seem to think he is, he bettered Carrick by 1 win in that season and those were the play off games.

My over all point is the difference in what he did and what we had is pretty fine and edwards form either side of that promotion season doesn’t really give a strong indication what we’re going to get.

People will happily say Carrick had one freak season and over achieved, but say for Edwards it’s ‘the norm’.

The Sunderland situation was significantly impacted by the fact their fans were aggressively calling for his head from the second he was appointed.

Sunderland are absolute amatuers - we start hounding our new manager before they even get the job.

I’m just waiting for Wrexham or Birmingham to make that one marquee singing to send our fans into meltdown because we still haven’t announced a manager or released the kits.

And by ‘our fans’ you just mean yourself?

You’re way too black and white. Nobody is saying he’s a messiah or a miracle worker or whatever you’ve said. He’s won promotion with a team in this league that’s wasn’t expected to do it. He’s also gotten them relegated from the Prem despite putting up a fight and the poor form continued.

There are plusses and minuses but there is a place between Messiah and worst manager ever in the history of football. putting words into peoples mouths doesn’t really create good discussions.

I really hope we get him, really helps with the style of play criticism although Beale likes a 433

Never post on here usually but some of the comments around Rob Edwards becoming manager are driving me mad!

I get that some fans are disappointed or unsure about Rob Edwards potentially becoming Boro manager — but I think we need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. Personally, I think he’s exactly the kind of manager we should be going for, and here’s why:

1) He fits our model perfectly -  he's young, progressive, and hungry, has a strong development record with young players, and more importantly, comfortable working with a sporting director, like Kieran Scott.

2) Tactical Intelligence -  At Luton, he set up a compact, hard-working, and tactically flexible side, think pragmatism with structure — he’s not pidgeon holed himself to one system but adapts to the players and the opponent. That’s key in the Championship. Despite a limited budget, he got Luton playing with intensity, organisation, and belief. It wasn’t always flashy — but it was effective. And when you consider the talent ceiling we have compared to Luton, there’s serious potential for him to go up another level here.

Please go watch the video he did on The Coaches Voice on YouTube, you'll instantly view the man in a different light. Tried to link it but wouldn't work for some reason.

3) Style - I think with Edwards being more tactically flexible, it's a huge bonus, Carrick couldn't play any other way and teams figured us out. More importantly though, Edwards will make us gritty and give us an identity, His Luton team were horrible to play against, pressing aggressively and full of fight. Carrick's team from the outset was passive and too nice and we as Boro fans couldn't think of anything worse.

4) Success already in his career -  He took Luton to the Premier League with a bottom-6 budget, held his own in the top flight longer than most expected and built a real team spirit and culture that fans bought into.

5) Reputation - Go read what the majority of Luton fans say about him, they loved him and most didn't want him to leave. Clear signs of a man who communicates well (carricks big weakness), respects the fans and builds real unity. Something I think is extremely important with the Boro fan base.

Edwards is far from perfect, but what manager is? Klopp was relegated with Mainz early on in his career, he ended up doing okay didn't he? The important thing is that Rob Edwards represents the kind of smart, modern appointment we should be aiming for. Young, hungry, and with a point to prove — just like Boro.

Let's give him a chance, get behind him, and see where this goes.

Welcome to the forum Rob.

In all seriousnesss I think it’s a good post and hopefully once it’s actually announced we all get behind the new management team and give them some time. If you are planning to be negative from day 1 then you aren’t really a Boro fan.
