My over all point is the difference in what he did and what we had is pretty fine and edwards form either side of that promotion season doesn’t really give a strong indication what we’re going to get. &nbsp
 

People will happily say Carrick had one freak season and over achieved, but say for Edwards it’s ‘the norm’. 

Who has called him a messiah? I certainly haven’t. 
And as for that season, it may have only been 1 game, but it was the fact he got them over the line - when he had the worse squad between him and Carrick.

I don’t see how anyone can compare Carrick and Edwards and not come to the conclusion that Edwards is a better manager. 
 

IMO it’s not even remotely close. But even if it is close - Carrick is certainly not better than Edwards.

When does a season stop being THIS season and start being LAST season? And when does NEXT season become THIS season.

I have started referring to 24/25 as LAST season, but 25/26 is still NEXT season. So for me, there is currently no THIS season.

I wouldn't mind if he did Barnaby.  Same goes for players when they leave us.  Unless they have done something to disrespect the club/fans then I have no problem with people moving on and doing well even if it's against us.  I hope Woody goes on to do some good things elsewhere as well.  Even someone like Pulis, who I really didn't want as our manager, I wouldn't have begrudged him leaving and doing well elsewhere because it was just the football that I didn't like, not the man himself.  I'd be surprised if many people had a dislike of Carrick strong enough to wish him ill.  I know that's not what you're doing, you just don't want him to give us a battering.

The 3.4.3 is interesting. I was under assumption it was more a 3.1.4.2 with no wide forwards. More advancing full backs alongside two no.8s and two no.9s.

Maybe he just flexible and uses both above systems.

I'm guessing by reading (or should say, skimming through some real despotic, wrist slitting, despondency) through pages of this sites poorest moment  that Pep didn't want the job because I can't tell who people actually wanted or expected. Cooper was probably the highest level and it's clear he didn't want the gig.

Like everyone on here and I'll say it again "EVERYONE" on here I haven't a clue how well Edwards will fit the Club, the Model, the Squad, or even his Shoes at this rate and the exact same could be said of any exotic Italian, Spanish, German Champions League winning Manager/Coach/Head Coach that we overlooked.

Our Squad is depleted to the point where it's unlikely they fit anyone's preferred system, they certainly didn't fit Carrick's, based on that last 6 game spineless, gutless whimper to the season's end. 

Save the whining and moaning until there is genuine cause for it, I'm pretty sure Edwards will have been quizzed about what went wrong as well as what went right at Luton and I'm guessing SG will have pushed and pushed on that point more than anyone considering he just had to sack his preferred choice and was now considering Scott's alleged preference. It's maybe worth remembering a certain Gareth Southgate was despatched from the Club after relegation and went on to manage at a much higher level and achieved as much, in fact more than many supposed "top" Coaches, including the current glamour appointment struggling to convince or impress.

Managers typically last around 16 months with the few exceptions being the successful ones delivering Trophies (unless your name is Ange). That indicates that the "Moaners" might get their wish circa October 2026 (in League One), meantime they can sit at home and wail rather than expose themselves to the incoming, seemingly inevitable, implosion and relegation. 

There are no real "Robbites" anywhere, instead at best we seem to have "Well, OK, let's see how it goes, it might work" so at least we won't have to deal with a "Carrickteer" mentality who could see no evil, or very little at least while  supporting a despairing lost cause. 

My experience in life to date tells me that a synergistic approach usually works better than an all in, all or nothing one. With Edwards and the whispers/leaks about the Coaching Team being built around him, it might be a better balanced and more cohesive unit than the old boys network was. Individually, perhaps not great or certainly awe inspiring but collectively they could be better than the sum of their parts. It looks to me like the Club have considered their options and are attempting to improve on areas where we had underwhelming showings, set pieces being the most obvious one.

Excited and wetting myself? No, disappointed and depressed, equally No. I guess I'm curious as to how it could all gel together and click and in doing so being a really clever decision. If not, there's always October 2026.

Meanwhile, rather than forensically dissecting every bit of evidence, in the words of Ted Hastings maybe just “houl yer wheesht”.

If it’s true we’re getting Beale then I think his tactical/system input will be just as big if not bigger than Edwards own since that’s literally what he’s apparently known for, there wouldn’t be much point getting him otherwise.
