But of course they can work, it’s about the space they create such as wilders first year jones was amazing with with crooks and Dijksteel working as a triangle in build up, wingbacks can be effective in helping us have more space in the middle which we’ve been wanting for ages

Even wilder switched from a back 3 didn’t he?

Reading about Gerrard at rangers they used a 433/4321 formation, there’s a chance we do a similar thing and use the full backs as wing backs and the dm in the midfield 3 kind of drops in as a 3rd cb. So it would be a 3421/3241 kind of thing when attacking.

Im still more a fan of the 4231 tbh just because if used how Carrick did in his first season you get basically 2 up front.

A 433 with a front 3 of Azaz, Conway and Whittaker just comes across as very weak and lacking focal point. At the very least to see improvement we’d need Azaz to be one of the 8s and a new forward taking that spot, that’s if Azaz stays of course.

We begged carrick to change system the season before last and the one game where he switched to a 3 back we beat Leicester

And we beat Edwards 3 at the back system 5-1 with 4 at the back a few months ago.

I can’t imagine we’ll be playing with wingbacks when we don’t have any. Isn’t the whole point not to rip up the squad and style with a change of manager?

We already did that from Wilder to Carrick.  Right now we don't have good enough fullbacks so what's the issue if instead of buying them we end up buying wingbacks instead?  That's if we end up doing that of course.  Go through the squad and list the players who you feel have to be in the first XI.  I don't mean name a starting XI, I mean only list the players who would have to be in any team that we put out.  What do you have when you do that?  Does it really force you into one particular system or formation?  I bet it's about 4 or 5 players max.

We changed style completely between Wilder and Carrick already.

Both were brought in under Scott.

We currently have one fit fullback and 2 out and maybe returning from long term injuries

If we want to play with wingbacks, we'll sign them.

We'll need to sign players regardless, so it won't matter.

Bangura looks well suited to the wing back role, if he can get fit

Scott also said we wouldn’t be over reliant on loans so we didn’t have to start all Over again every summer.

Fitness is a massive issue with him.  He's been here for two seasons and he's played less than 800 mins of football.  Bloody nightmare for the lad 😟
