The odd good game isn't enough, it's what you do across a season. Rogers didn't play that well for us. It's become a convenient thing to suggest that he did but he didn't. It was a good spot to nab him in the first place I agree but we didn't improve for him being here. He was a downgrade on the player who was here before him. If he'd stayed then who knows, we might well be having a different conversation, but he didn't. Lath we played a blinder on when selling him as we got more than he's worth. Nice business financially, and I've said the same on the forum previously. I completely agree with you that the financial side of things are important to us, I'm not trying to underplay that, but that can't the primary goal? I assume it isn't anyway. All daftness aside, I'm sure Gibson wants promotion more than he wants a profitable club if you see what I mean. I don't think the current squad is distant from the 2022 team, I think that would be over the top. But it has gone backwards, and all of the money coming in is only truly useful if we can turn that into better players. That's why I said in my post earlier that I feel like we need a summer window where we nail four or five signings that do it on the pitch for us from the start. Of course thats fair we agree on this window mattering hugely. For me its the first one where we have real ability to try and make that big step forward. the others have been trying to get the ball rolling with the miracle we hit on everyone. The primary of course has to be improvement on the pitch but i also think any signing made that gets flipped for huge profit has to be considered a major success even if its in a different way i think it all goes hand in hand you need both to succeed.

I know people blame his agent but usually this stuff is driven by the player, and I don't blame him really. Probably grew up in poverty, and won't have signed a big contract anywhere, then someone says we'd like to pay you a few million quid a year, and what are you going to think? It's easy to talk about careers and winning stuff but it's his job, and when you haven't earned that much up until this point then it's completely natural to want the money. Obviously how we ended up replacing him was a cock up but even then if Whittaker had got going we might not have missed him as much. It's just unfortunate that he couldn't find his form, Iheanacho wasn't fit, and Iling-Junior wasn't ready either. We added three attacking players, and we only lost one (two if you count Doak's injury), but none of them could get anywhere near their best. Whittaker was the biggest disappointment for me, just never really got going and rarely looked dangerous other than a few flashes. Think his best performance came in the last day at Coventry

Think his best performance came in the last day at Coventry Part of what we’re doing is buying young, inexperienced players with a view to them becoming important to the team the season after, especially if we know that we’re likely to be selling the player they replace. Sometimes we have to rely on them from the off, which can be to their detriment, as it does take time to get comfortable in a place, and our fans are often pretty quick to make their decision. I expect to see the real Whittaker in the coming season.

I think we have done that too much, especially in the last 12 months. Partly because our injury crisis took out *all* of our senior pros so we didn't have an established spine to bed them in. *Some* of our inconsistency last season in particular is, I reckon, because young players are generally a lot more inconsistent, especially if they are changing teams.

I'm assuming there was some kind of falling out in the run up to this past Xmas. Reading between the lines I think that Dieng was carrying a small injury before he went to the tournament. On his return Carrick was wanting him to play through it which is why his form dipped. This then led to a falling out because Dieng wanted to get treatment and Carrick wanted him to play until it got the point where he had to get treatment and we saw him on a hospital bed.........Carrick froze him out after that because he couldn't be relied upon.
