All 3 of you must be remarkably successful businessmen, given your in depth knowledge of how to run multi million pound companies.

Football clubs are rather different than mere multi million commercial organisations, dedicated to making profits. Without the fans they are nothing. The fans are of prime importance. They are the life blood of any football club. The fans don't generate the big bucks but they give the club meaning. They are the heart beat, the visceral substance of the club. The fans in the main are rooted in the local community. The club carries the banner for that community. You can stuff your multi million companies, adopting any latest  woke fad that they perceive will gain them more profits. A football club is much bigger than that sort of crap.

Gibson et al better start remembering what a football club is all about. Perhaps he could start by communicating much better to with the fans. The Chairman's pint doesn't cut it I'm afraid

"The club are pleased to announce the appointment of Rob Edwards as head coach, subject to Rob signing his contract which he is still to discuss with his family.  The club are also delighted to announce Micheal Beale as first team coach subject to agreement on salary and benefits.

We trust the fans will be excited by this news and the speed at which its been communicated."

Fans are ultimately just a paying customer who follow the "brand" (club) with emotional involvement and passion. That's not to say you don't have people that will always buy or purchase the latest product from a brand that they love? Both of these things are inherently the same, as much as we like to romanticise about football being more.

So, no. I wouldn't say there is much of a difference.

Plastic goat isn’t far off tbf

The goal for a company is to make money and the trendy fads a lot of companies hypocritically hop on are ultimately just for the benefit of their share price

The goal for a footy club isn’t to make money it’s to win trophies (sporting success) which do have a monetary reward but it’s a lot less than what you spend to win it generally

I'd love to live in a world where a football club runs purely off of fans love and support.

But this isn't the case.

But it's not purely a business either.

Fans buy tickets, merchandise etc.. which puts money into the club's coffers. But that alone doesn't come close to paying what it takes to run a football club. So much more goes into it.

Of course football is about winning trophies. However, the business side has became evermore intertwined as the game grows globally and the riches grow in parallel with this.

The global appeal/reach of the game goes against the notion that fans are rooted in the local community and carry an banner/identity. This would work more the further down the pyramid you go, but many teams in the Premier League are followed, and have vast sums of money pumped into them by fans from countries thousands of miles away.

Clubs wouldn't be such an attractive investment if they weren't viewed as a business. Otherwise ("sportswashing" and boys with toys aside), why else would people from outside of the game/local area be interested?

It is not exclusively one or the other, but to say that it isn't influenced by business at all would be incredibly naive.
