Carrick, Woodgate et al have gone!

The problems definitely don't stop with Carrick. Being objective, this isn't a squad you'd be shocked to see finish 10th again (as it stands). Quality players have been sold and not replaced, and it's caught up with us. We're lacking in winning experience and mental strength, and we pick up constant injuries. The manager is important but we've somehow ended up needing an even bigger 'rebuild' than the last two summers.

Tbf Scott only came in around the wilder time, so before that was purely Gibson getting his guys, to me Carrick after wilder made sense in a young coach, now we find someone who plays similar football but has more experience under his belt, which seems like cooper as he played a lot of 4231 as well as his 3 back

Yeah look i get all that, I just don't have faith in our decision making over the years. I know it's different people involved now, but Gibson is still the ultimate decision maker. As much as I love the man, he's a sucker for a terrible manager appointment.

We want the system to remain similar, so we identify targets for how the club wants to play, then find a manager who can do that at a level we want

I suppose so but I just think the timing of it will put us back slightly with our targets, Carrick would have likely agreed to 3 main targets for every position, it is likely that the new manager doesn’t agree with some of those targets so could be back to the drawing board on some

I know, it's funny as innit

It was a weird appointment at the time bringing him in as Carrick’s assistant given he had already been sacked from being a Head Coach. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again. Next he’ll be coming out of retirement to cover for Dael Fry.

I agree with you tbh Gibson has apparently overruled Scott twice now with going for carrick over Edwards and the rumour was Scott wanted carrick gone after Watford so I will be annoyed if he doesn’t let Scott get his man

Or, hes one for you.. let’s just look at experienced managers in actual decent leagues rather than the National League or League of Ireland.

How Much of the League of Ireland have you watched?

I think the 3 main targets for each position can be different profiles, so for striker for example we may have Strelec, Kone and Sam Surridge (just for the example) 3 different profiles but the manager can chose which he can prefer then we try to get that player or someone similar

I wouldn’t waste me time but don’t even think about comparing it to the championship 😂 Connor Malley is ever present and that says everything

I'd sooner have duff than about 80% of the favourites list.

Has cut his teeth properly, involved in youth coaching, then celtics reserves and first team. Moved up to Ireland assistant manager and then took over at shelbs, having an excellent time. He won the league with a team that should have been nowhere near the title. Plays good football too.

He's ready for the next step, not certain it should be as high as us, but I'd rather take that chance than go for one of the boring options.

I just pray it’s not a manager who plays with wingbacks/three at the back. I fooking hate that system. My Danish club has parted ways with Uwe Rösler so I’ve just sat through 3 years of wingbacks and it’s doing my head in. Hopefully it’s not introduced at boro and the new manager at AGF puts it in the bin too.

Proper Barstooler answer 😀

It’s a good technical league with some decent up and coming players.

I half expect the person we get isn’t on the favourites list
