I just pray it’s not a manager who plays with wingbacks/three at the back. I fooking hate that system. My Danish club has parted ways with Uwe Rösler so I’ve just sat through 3 years of wingbacks and it’s doing my head in. Hopefully it’s not introduced at boro and the new manager at AGF puts it in the bin too.

I think Giles doing bad this year and selling jones means we don’t want to go back to wingbacks

To be fair, it would be Boro all over to hire a manager who prefers wingbacks and then go into the season with just Ayling and Bangura.

Although the more I think about how this has came about the more I think we’ve got rid of carrick as someone has come available who we rate highly as something has changed

Not far from the truth I think. Perhaps our favoured candidate was about to take up another Mgr position 🤔

That has typical boro all over it but least we know right back is a priority position

The only one close is probably Edwards to Bristol city is rumoured but to me if that was the case we would of heard something by now as he would use it as leverage to get the best deal from either club

At least it wasn’t Russell Martin.

The problems definitely don't stop with Carrick. Being objective, this isn't a squad you'd be shocked to see finish 10th again (as it stands). Quality players have been sold and not replaced, and it's caught up with us. We're lacking in winning experience and mental strength, and we pick up constant injuries. The manager is important but we've somehow ended up needing an even bigger 'rebuild' than the last two summers.

Well done Mr Scott 👏

Genuine question - what's your issue with wingbacks? I appreciate we don't currently have the players to make the system work, but it gives you three at the back, width with pace down the flanks if you choose the right WBs, lets you play two up front (I am so unspeakably sick of watching Boro toil away with one lone striker against a back four) and still put three men into midfield.

My personal formation of choice would be 4132, but I don't get the hate for wingbacks. What was Rösler doing that was so unenjoyable to watch?

I was fan of wing backs till the last few months of wilder which were horrible to watch. Put it off me for life as irrational as that is.

433 for me, there's a reason all the top sides in world football use it.

433 a dm and two attacking 8’s and fast wingers gets me excited in ways I don’t know will break the signing up policy to oneboro

Hackney would be the best player in the league in that formation, I'm convinced of it. If we could somehow get him to stay and get a centre midfielder who can score goals as the second 8 with Morris anchoring and recycling, my God. As great as hackney has been for us I think we've wasted his talents a little by playing him in a 2.
