They're in a similar position to ours when Carrick was appointed, catchup all season. However, you wouldn't bet against them making the play-offs being 9 points adrift of 6th.

I agree they've got some good players, couldn't believe he had Hamer on the bench v Ipswich... Wilder was unlucky not to go up last season

To be fair, they hadn't had a penalty in three days so were due one.

Lads, I really want everything to go your way at the weekend. Odds are, it probably won't, but trust me, if you are going to go up, as I hope you will, the play offs are the way to do it. In my 60's a

  • Fundamentally, it's in our hands. If we can keep up to 2 points per game until the end of the season, we end up on 90 points. If that doesn't get us into the top 2 then all we can do is hold up our ha

Did he do that well with them last season? I know they got play off final and everything but they didn’t exactly barnstorm the league like normal did they?

The final hinged on that disallowed goal, if Sunderland had gone in 2 down at half time there would have been no fairy tale comeback. You need a slice of luck to go up and Sunderland had spades of it.

10 points off the top 2…

Also their squad is very different to last season they’ve lost Souza, Ahmedhodzic, Gilchrist, Rak Sakyi, Brereton Diaz and Holding and replaced them with inferior players. He will get them back up there of course but I feel like they’re being a bit over hyped based on recent history.

Souza and Ahmedhodzic were big players dor them last season. Rest were more bit part.

One thing Wilder has in his favour is players they signed like Tanganga, Godfrey, Mee and McGuinness are his type of players. And they are ideally suited if he wishes to go back to his wing back system with Seriki and Burrows as the wing backs.

Add to that he can call on attacking talent like Hamer, Ohare, Chong, Louie Barry and Ogbene alongside Cannon, Campbell and Ings.

Like i said, some of the above are not world beaters but they are Wilder type players. Ironic really as Wilder was sacked as they wanted a new type of recruitment model but signings like Tanganga, McGuiness, Mee and Ings etc are ones Wilder would have made anyway.

They will be in the play off mix I am sure.

Not sure about the rest being ‘bit part’ like, gilchrist played 29, Brewster played 35, Rak sakyi played 35, brereton played 20+ and came in in January. Cannon was far more bit part than any of the players they’ve lost.

Most points for a team who has not been promoted (in history)

Is Wilder trying to set the record for how many times you can be sacked by the same club?

Does anyone know what the record is for sackings by the same club? I know some managers have probably had four or five stints in charge at one club, but some of those are likely to be temporary caretaker appointments whenever a permanent manager or head coach is shown the door.

perfect karma for the auto season under a transfer embargo :classic_tongue:

so has much changed with their squad since wilder left? looks like there has been a fair amount in and out of the club so far

https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sheffield-united/transfers/verein/350

wondering if he still has the players he needs to play how he normally plays? is anyone brought in also now going to be a waste? knowing how Stubborn and petty Wilder can be I could see him shunning some of the new guys if he would rather swap them for someone else in Jan. He probs has Selles on his *** list, wonder if he mentions his name like he would never do with Warnock :classic_tongue:

He did change to 4-2-3-1 last season. Although I don't like Wilder as a person from how he acts he appears to be a decent manager who lost his way for a few years due to his ego.

His current likely team still looks really strong when playing 4-2-3-1. Don't know about right back but rest seems good. They seem to be stuffed full of CBs so they probably could go back to 3-5-2 although 3-4-2-1 looks like it might suit them best.

GK Cooper

RBs Shackleton(inj) / Seriki?

CBs Godfrey / Mee / Zatterstrom / Tanganga / McGuinness / Bindon

LBs Burrows / McCallum

DMs Soumare / Arblaster (inj?)

CMs Peck / Davies

AMs/#10s  O'Hare / Hamer / Chong

Forwards/wingers Brooks / Ogbene / Barry

CFs Campbell / Ings / Cannon

There's also a bunch of AI driven projects that he'll simply ignore.

The big weakness is up front but get that squad functioning properly and even with the bad start you would expect them to be challenging for 5th/6th

AI probs told them to bring wilder back, fk me did not know they were running the club via chat gpt these days :classic_tongue:

I think where Wilder is involved it's Chat BLT.
