Well seemingly you have acted pretty swiftly knowing that the current thread will be locked at some point soon.

Maybe a bit early but certainly a thread that will gather real momentum once this season is over.

Going to be a ride

We're going to have Schrodinger's transfer targets list depending on whether we get promoted.

If we get promoted then, Sunderland/Forest style, we need to buy a new team with Hackney and Malanda at the core of it.

If we don't get promoted then odds are Hackney and Malanda leave and we have to use the money to improve the rest of the team.

Here's my stab at which of our current players might make a step up if we get promoted.

Good enough for the 1st 11: Hackney, Malanda, McGree (if fit)
Maybe good enough for the 1st 11. Brittain, Targett, Whittaker
Good enough for positions 12-20. Brynn, Jones, Fry (if fit), Ayling (just one more year), Morris, Conway
Maybe good enough for positions 12-20. Strelec, Sarmiento (quite hopeful of this), Castledine (a wildcard who might skyrocket)

To me, that looks like bringing in 8 capable of starting in the 1st 11 and another 3 or so for depth/projects. There's no way we can afford to buy them all so we're going to have to be really smart with loans and at least one Granit Xhaka type of elder statesman.

I don't watch a lot of Premier league stuff but when I do it is clear that the quality gap with the Championship is widening every year. If we try to be too clever and figure we can do it on the cheap, we're going to be really badly burned.

Come back to this in the summer when we are promoted, Hackney stays and we sign Evan Ferguson. Also what a great forum we have we get to do all the debates over again and I wouldn’t change a thing (apart from the site loading a tweet)

It's pretty crazy to think in 3 months time, we will either be focusing on spending the Hackney money to go again....or we'll be discussing how much of the £200m+ windfall we'll be spending on recruits.

its closer to about 130m, the extra 70m is from parachute payments if your relegated, which is why they say its worth 200m
