Simply because we aren't remotely set up for that style of play, we don't have wingers or pace, and as Hellberg has said in his pre match press the other day we don't have players that have scored any goals in their career from headed crosses, and who also dont have the height or physical presence/strength to learn that skill and be successful, so why would you attempt a style of play that we don't have the ability to do?
Short answer is you don't, you try to play to the strengths of the players you have whilst adapting to the challenges opposition teams are facing. KH came in and did well by finding what worked for our technical ball playing abilities.

I don't know where people get this idea that "we aren't set up for it".

Hellberg currently plays one of our 2 recognised strikers in a left forward role and has pushed Hackney into the front 3 on occasions. If anything, playing players out of position has been a fairly common theme for the last few managers.

While we may not have any classic out-and-out wingers, I'm pretty sure he could get some of our left/right-sided midfielders or forwards to put crosses in from wide positions. I could be wrong, but I don't think its a particularly rare or difficult skill to acquire.

Sarmiento put in a very nice ball for Strelec in the last game that was one of our better opportunities.

Our technical, ball-playing prowess has done very little for us in the last few games, so it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to try something a bit different. Especially if Brum's scouts have been taking notes...

Wasn’t a great performance in the sense of quick passing and moving but after the last few games, we needed to show we had a plan B, and we did that tonight. A headed goal from a cross, a goal from a

  • Yeah I think this is a better way of putting what I said earlier. I think in its own way this was an inspiring performance. There's been a slight criticism creeping in that Hellberg only knows how to

Lot of credit has to go to hellberg here. Not pretty, almost the antithesis to how he likes us to play but all of his major decisions have paid off tonight - fry back in, been impirious, stelec up fro

Sarmiento is a winger and hasn't had chance to stretch his legs properly yet. Agree we need to use the full width of the pitch. Not sure why the coaching team cant see it, perhaps they are too close to the touchline. Get Adi sitting up in the stands so he can see the patterns of play. Its obvious to me we are playing too narrow but hey, what do I know, I've only been to virtually every home game for the last 50 years !

Wonder is it's a reaction to pressure/stress?

Probably, you can tell he’s getting *** off about low block questions aswell

Fry, McGree, Sarmiemto and Strelec going to be key players in the run in for Hellberg I think.

It'll be the first time he's dealt with mandatory twice weekly press conferences with repetive questions, it grinds every manager down when results aren't great.

I like that he’s talking about and will be working on obvious problem from the last few games. Improving what we do when we get in good areas.

Awkward silence on dom shaws joke there 😂

Could really do with Castledine back. If for no other reason than hes slightly different to our otheroptions and can score from range.

Weirdly our dip in form coincided with Castledine being out haha. He does offer something different like and when he played he kind of did the left sided role Conway does and Tommy was more central. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a 4222 with Castledine and Conway as the strikers, probably not on Monday but at some point

Used a lot of stats to sort of reassure himself that his methods are working, total shots taken especially he mentioned a few times. His team have taken more shots than any other Boro side in the past 6 years.

At first it sounded like he was trying to defend himself or deflect blame, but honestly I think he just loves going over the full timeframe of his thoughts since the game and what he's found since rewatching the game and analysing the stats.

Even after games, he spends the first 5 minutes just explaining how the game went from start to finish.

I'm not surprised. The standard of journalism and the questions that were asked are amateur and pathetic tbh.

Yea I hate the questions some of them ask, you can see Hellberg kind of come back to life when one of them asks a decent question about set up
