Teams – Boro v Millwall

Location – Riverside Stadium

Competition – The Championship

Date – Friday 03rd Apr 2026

Kick off – 12:30

Introduction

Welcome all. As part of my preparations for this game, I had a look at my previous match day thread against Derby in January. The introduction from that thread shows that some things never change:

Over the last three games, Boro have surrendered the comfort zone they had over 3rd place. They now teeter only 2 points above the dreaded play-offs and a resurgent Ipswich.

The Last Games

Boro: Blackburn 0 – 0 Boro

Middlesbrough stalled again in a slog against a lower half team. They huffed and puffed but somehow couldn’t finish any of their chances. Strelec, Morris, Conway and Browne could/should each have had a goal.

Boro dominated the game in terms of shots, possession, shots on target and corners, but failed to convert that domination into 3 points

Millwall: Ipswich 1 – 1 Millwall

Millwall and Ipswich handed Boro a lifeline by kindly drawing and dropping 4 points between them. Jack Clarke opened the scoring before half time and Coburn finished the scoring just after the second half had kicked off.

Ipswich dominated the game in terms of shots, possession, shots on target and corners, but failed to convert that domination into 3 points. Sound familiar?

 The Un(ger)-Official Match Preview

Along with the Ipswich game, this is one of the most important games of the season. You would think if Boro can get 3 points in both games, we will get automatic promotion. That’s a mighty big IF though. In recent games, Boro have missed some huge opportunities (both in terms of goals and wins) to go well clear of third place. Is this just a dip? We certainly hope so.

Millwall’s performance against Ipswich should serve as a reminder to us that they can be very difficult to beat and can nick points, even when they don’t dominate the game.

Expect Boro to have lots of possession and play inside the Millwall half. Hopefully this time we can click in front of goal and put Millwall to the sword.

Realistically, I’ll go for a very scrappy 1-0 win for Boro in the clash of the lion and the other lion.

Every game goes by i get more and more angry by the complete lack of ambition and proactively in January. Best position weve been in for years, a guaranteed 20mil to come in from Hackney if we miss ou

Its hard to put all of today into context. I am absolutely over the moon and ecstatic that my youngest son joined me at the game for his only ever 2nd game. He has autism and although goes to goalkeep

Couldn't be more on the fence with this one regarding the result. Either we put in a masterclass performance or get bullied out of the game. I feel its a game we will need Fry to be fit for and starting given the size of the Millwall team.

Its vital we score early in this game as it seems we overthink and overplay the longer we go without scoring. It is a great opportunity to put a gap between us and Ipswich though which would in turn put more pressure on them for their game and open up a 5 point gap on Millwall.

I know people often say we struggle around Xmas but I cant remember too many good Easter weekends in recent seasons.

Im impartial to a Caramel egg and feel they should transfer this concept into the larger eggs. Also Smarties eggs and Malteasers eggs have always been up there. The big disappointment at Easter is when they buy the 'posh' ones when a simple Cadburys (or my eggs mentioned) one is preferred. I even got a vegan one bought last year. I dont think my relationship with my girlfriends mum has been the same since.

Im going to say we will see Hackney back to the delight of his biggest fan on here.

I was impartial to the Leadmill in Sheffield before they closed it down. Had some cracking nights in the there.

Seeing as though this is a crunch game it’s fitting that you can’t beat a large crunchie egg.

Huge game and one I don't think we can really afford to slip up in.

Win and we're 5 points clear of Millwall, and create that cushion on Ipswich too

Draw keeps Millwall behind us, but we're then only 3 points clear of Ipswich, having played 2 games more.

Lose and we're down to 3rd, and Ipswich are also only 2 points behind us with 2 games in hand.

I *** hate those games in hand, just constant uncertainty.

Just watched the Blackburn highlights back and honestly when the emotion is removed we battered them should have been an easy 3-0er.

I think we’ll turn up against Millwall and be the better team, the obvious question is will we convert the chances. It’s easy to look at our results and forget how we actually played which messes with our own perception of the teams quality’s.

Seen a few posts about quality of chances etc but nah I just can’t agree, we’ve made enough legit chances to have 2/3/4 goals in the last couple of games and we’ll do it again next Friday

Hopefully!

A good old fashioned windmill. The one Jonathan Creek used to live in is a good example.

1-1 im afraid v Millwall.

Feel like this is the tougher match for us out of Millwall and Ipswich. They've got no ego and Neill is canny - they'll have seen what's worked against us in recent games. Difference is they've got way more quality to hit back than recent sides we've played.

Probably be very tight and smart money would be on a score draw.

But hard to really predict until we know the extent of the international break damage. If Hackney, Browne, Morris, and McGree are all out... Then we can probably forget about this one. They've got two weeks training with a full squad which is a huge advantage.

Now I understand why his favourite book is 50 Shades of Rubber. 😉

Alex Neil will instruct his team to leave their foot in, any injuries they can inflict will effect the run in and therefore our play off chances. A strong ref and we'll beat them 2-0, a weak one and we'll struggle to get the draw.
