Maccarone 265
Could someone give a run down of current promising youth players, it would be good to get a little more knowledge of our future superstars.
thepassenger 16
We are looking at trying to get someone to provide us with some more information on the youth players. In the meantime, I don't know if anyone has noticed in RedSquare, Mark Proctor contributes to a regular slot called 'The Next Generation'. Here is a summary of the season so far: ADAM JACKSON Born: Darlington Position: CB Strengths: Excellent defender, big and getting bigger and technically better. Mature beyond his years, have really big hopes for him Development: At 6'3 he can appear ungainly at times Career: If progress continues he will have a very bright future CHARLIE WYKE Birthplace: Boro Position: CF Strengths: Technically excellent, very good in the air. He can link things up and be inventive and creative in the last third. Showing a good goals to games ratio Development: Has a tendency to take a second or two too long on the ball. Needs to make decisions quicker Career: Unsure whether he has finished growing, could turn out to be a big number 9 ADAM REACH Birthplace: Durham Position: any left-side Strengths: More attack more than defense-minded. Technically getting better and finding his range with his passing. Very good at running with the ball and beating people. Tremendous shot Development: If he specialises as a defender, he'll have to work on the defensive side of his game. Needs to work on his physical and core strength Career: Clearly has big potential. Need to establish his best position BEN GIBSON Birthplace: Boro Position: CB/LB Strengths: Technically good. Great attitude and application, also possesses good leadership. Development: If he's to become a LB, needs to concentrate on playing in wide areas. If CB, he needs to improve his aerial ability Career: Growth and development issues have led to workload monitoring and as a result he's been in and out of training CAMERON PARK Birthplace: Boro Position: LM Strengths: 'Cameron is wonderful'. Crosses, shoots and passes well.Great passing range, good close control, talented dribbler. Development: Needs to work harder when out of possession of the ball. Needs to work on his heading. Also needs to work on his fitness, he's doing gym work to address this. Needs to be a bit more of a team player Career: Progressing rapidly, if he continues to work hard and perform to his potential, his progress will accelerate RYAN BROBBEL Birthplace: Hartlepuddle Position: CM Strengths: Very clever on the ball, good dribbling skills and can unlock defences in the final third with a skillful dribble or pass Development: Needs to concentrate on the simple things, simple pass and decisions. Career: Looks comfortable at the U-18 level, needs to establish a bit more playing time in the second team environment CURTIS EDWARDS Birthplace: Boro Position: CM Strengths: Very creative passer, can play the ball long or short Development: Needs physical development. Work harder when not in possession, improve concentration levels Career: If he continues to improve physically, he could have a big future DAVID ATKINSON Birthplace: Shildon Position: RB Strengths: Physically strong, good technique. Can also play CB but more suited as a full back due to his size Development: Endurance levels Career: Hopefully he will progress into the second team this season WILSON KNEESHAW Birthplace: Darlo Position: CF Strengths: Very versatile striker, can also play wide. Very small and mobile. Prolific record at U-16 level Development: Decision making, concentration and technical aspects. Baresi 7
Great run down of players Passenger, I've only been to one youth team game, that was against Everton in the FA Cup. Curtis Edwards looked as though he could be one for the future in that game, especially in the first half but he died in the second half.
boro-unger 3,870
but he died in the second half. hmm, yeh, i can see how that would be a bit of a setback in terms of his development. i hope he makes a full recovery... anyway, very interesting rundown of players. look forward to seeing some of them in the first team in the future. thanks TP
Maccarone 265
Superb run down of some of thwe players and very interesting reading. I think this is an excellent addition to the forum, with our current financial poasition this is the life blood and future of the club so we should all be very interested in all of these players. Keep up the good work
kninemark2 11
Matt Dolan is a real prospect if he grows into his body. Alot of our lads are slight which is something that can hinder their progress . I hope he gets a chance to go out on loan in the next season or so.
CurtisFleming 86
Regarding the comments on our players being slight, I think its fairly obvious that they will physically mature with age. But another thing is that I think the physical side (especially size and strength) can be overrated, just look at the barca/spain team.
Maccarone 265
It's difficult with young players as the physical development seems to kick in at different ages, some who were physically strong earlier don't develop and vice versa. Most be hard to make the right calls at times
thepassenger 16
JAKE FOWLER Birthplace: Sunderland Position: Attacking mid Strengths: Very quick and technically very good. Excellent decision making Development: Needs to improve when not in possesion of the ball and work on his heading. Working hard on the defensive side of his game Career: Wide midfielder in the first year of his scholarship, can play left, right or down the middle. Has made a couple of appearances for the second team and has done fine, needs to be aiming for more time in this environment
