Billingham Synthonia v Boro reserves

Recommended Posts

Billingham Synthonia 0 - 2 Boro Reserves (Brobbel 2)

1. Montgomerie, 2. Rivers, 3. Weldon, 4. Edwards, 5. O'Ware, 6. Gibson, 7. Dobie, 8. Dolan, 9. Waters, 10. Brobbel, 11. Fowler.

At the back Boro played with a flat back four with Gibson(capt) in the centre alongside, what looked like Jackson(O'Ware), and Weldon and Rivers the full-backs. In midfield we played with a diamond formation, with Edwards finding himself at the base for most of the time and Fowler at the tip but it was very flexible with players interchanging on numerous occasions. Waters played as the main striker, with Brobbel in behind, the only width to the team was being provided by Paul Weldon from left-back, who had bags of space to run into, he also looks a lot stronger than he did last season.

The game started off with Boro having the most possession but Synners weren’t far behind, competing well but it wasn’t until the 20th minute until the first break through, with Boro winning a corner out on the right. Fowler played it short too Dobie who whipped in a cross with his right foot, first time, for Ryan Brobbel, who managed to escape his marker and glance a header into the far corner, 1 - 0 Boro.

In the 33rd minute Boro won a free kick, just outside the box and to the right, Dolan lined up to take the kick and hit a left foot screamer, that just went wide of the far post. Then Ryan Brobbel found a bit of space 22 yards out central, and hit a great shot to the keepers right but the keeper pulled off a fine one handed save, to tip the ball round the post.

Boro were getting more dominant by this stage and had a great move down the left involving Weldon and Dobie, which ended in Weldon hitting the side netting from a very acute angle.

HT 1-0 Boro

For the start of the second half Jackson(O'Ware) came off and was replaced by Pilatos, who went into the midfield diamond on the right hand side to start with but then switched with Edwards, to play just in front of the back four, Dolan going to centre back to replace Jackson(O'Ware).

It was as early as the 8th minute when Brobbel got his second for Boro, the Synners centre back was dithering on the ball under pressure from Fowler and attempted a pass back to his keeper but it was woefully short and Fowler nipped in to sqaure it for Brobbel who was unmarked 5 yards out in front of an open goal, 2 - 0 Boro.

Boro were totally dominating this half and after about 40 straight Boro passes Dobie managed to muscle his way through about 3 challenges and showing great skill to keep the ball, managed to tee up Waters on the edge of the box for a strike at goal but his shot seemed to strike the arm of one of the Synners defenders inside the box but the ref waved play on. In the 70th minute Dobie and Waters went off and Kneeshaw came on with another lad, they both played up front and Brobbel went to play at the tip of the diamond.

Total domination from the boro in this second half without creating many clear cut chances, Weldon and Fowler going off with 10 mins to go.

Game finished 2 - 0.

An easy run out for the young Boro reserves side, the defence looking solid with Gibson and Weldon showing up well, stroll in the park for those two, Curtis Edwards showed up best for the Boro in midfield and Dobie had a decent game also but man of the match goes to Ryan Brobbel, who put in a workman like performance, playing just behind Waters up front, causing all kinds of problems for the Synners defence with his skill and strong running.

Cheers, Baresi :)

Edit: It wasn't Jackson at no.5 it was a trialist called O'Ware, sorry couldn't get a match team sheet!

Good report.

Is Dobie the guy we recently got from Everton?

Yeah, thats right Ozzy, he's a tall lad, looks about 6ft1ins, right-footed, had a decent game. First time I've seen him play really apart from his debut, last season against Hull reserves, he only got 15 mins.

Trepid, yeah, the lad who caught my eye the most was Curtis Edwards. One of those players who needs to be on the ball a lot, whether in a defensive midfield role or further forward in the hole, the lads a playmaker. Looks bigger than the last time I seen him play as well, same goes for Weldon.

Thought the shape of the team was great, with that diamond in midfield, Synners were getting passed to death at times, they had to sacrifice one of their attackers in the second half to beef up the midfield, with Gibbo not having anyone to mark, he more or less went to left back and Weldon to the left wing.

Think Aggers does a great job on developing a team shape, wonder if thats how Mogga wants the first team to play, its like having four players in the middle of the park, with the width coming from the full backs. Then you've got two forwards up front, one creative and the other a target man. All the midfielders were comfortable on the ball, think the new lad Malaury Martin would fit into that style of play, along with Tommo, Smallwood and L.Williams.
