Non-Boro Football

Recommended Posts

I do wonder if shirt sponsorship opportunities will be increasingly restricted in future. Gambling has to go - that seems obvious. But what about junk food? A couple of years ago, a Chilean club played with pictures of McDonalds fries emblazoned across their shirts. We've been sponsored by a pawnbroker. Many clubs have relied on alcohol sponsorship, and one truly evil team even advertised Sports Direct.

I don't generally approve of the powers that be meddling in free-market economics, but since consumers are effectively walking billboards for a club's primary shirt sponsor, maybe certain industries should join gambling on the prohibited list for future seasons. Then again, these are the same football authorities that think Jarrad Branthwaite is harmless, so they'd probably let Russia Today sponsor us without thinking twice.

Their is a fascinating article about the Boro in today’s Athletic... Nine championship games in 29 days.  Following a team in their maddest run ever.    Neil Warnock was on the pit

Centuries ago Villages had ducking stools whereby if the person drowned they were innocent and if they lived they were guilty and sentenced to death. Nowadays not much has changed sadly. Idiots postin

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers. I probably shouldn’t have made things public, but I was at as very low ebb. It’s been a difficult year, not made better by COVID. Lockdown bucket lists aren’t

Perhaps because they're not a consumer facing business, and commercial contracts are (a) limited in number and (b) not chosen based on advertising. People watching Boro play are unlikely to think "ooh, I really fancy sending some freight to China", whereas if we were sponsored by Three Brothers Brewing Co, people would subconsciously start to fancy a pint. I want a pint now, actually. Mmm...beer...

Yes that makes sense, although whilst I was watching the match on Sunday I noticed a big corporate banner in the stand advertising a recruitment company, I was tempted to give them a ring and see if they could head hunt me an HR manager, but I decided I’d rather have a nice pint instead.

Step in the right direction, in terms of Gambling companies not being allowed on shirts. I know they bring money to the table, but where that money comes from doesn't sit right with me.

Just need to get the club's (in general) official social channels to stop peddling betting too. Noticed last season the Boro's official twitter page used to peddle 32 Red odds pre-match. But it seems this season to have stopped (at least I haven't noticed it).
