I've always refused to wear a Boro shirt with a gambling sponsor's logo on it, because I hate what gambling does to people (including a good friend of mine) and I refuse to advertise it on my clothing. It might be to the detriment of MFC's finances if either gambling sponsorship is banned or 32Red GTF next season, but it'll be to the benefit of society as a whole and fans in particular not to be walking adverts for casinos and bookies.

Are there any Teesside-based businesses big enough to be potential shirt sponsors? (other than Bulkhaul, obvs).

The Purple Onion? 🙃

Their is a fascinating article about the Boro in today’s Athletic... Nine championship games in 29 days.  Following a team in their maddest run ever.    Neil Warnock was on the pit

Centuries ago Villages had ducking stools whereby if the person drowned they were innocent and if they lived they were guilty and sentenced to death. Nowadays not much has changed sadly. Idiots postin

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers. I probably shouldn’t have made things public, but I was at as very low ebb. It’s been a difficult year, not made better by COVID. Lockdown bucket lists aren’t

Perhaps because they're not a consumer facing business, and commercial contracts are (a) limited in number and (b) not chosen based on advertising. People watching Boro play are unlikely to think "ooh, I really fancy sending some freight to China", whereas if we were sponsored by Three Brothers Brewing Co, people would subconsciously start to fancy a pint. I want a pint now, actually. Mmm...beer...

Fair point. But I do wonder how much attention the average fan actually pays to shirt sponsors, or even the advertising hoardings (except maybe at half time).

Personally speaking it barely registers with me.

While I agree things like alcohol, gambling and payday loan companies are not things to be encouraged, I would argue TV and internet advertising are far worse (i.e. more effective) than football sponsorship.

While I have a minor ethical issue with clubs being sponsored by companies like this, I also think its a pretty minor part of the overall problem, particularly when much greater advertising and exposure exists for them elsewhere.

Nice finish by Bamford to put Leeds ahead.

I really wish he was still our player.  Have never forgiven Pulis for pushing him out.  Think Braithwaite would have done well for us without Pulis, too.

Agreed, maybe we are aggrieved because they both went on to be decent players same with Traore and Stuani. Most other players we’ve let go have gone on to do very little elsewhere.

I think Braithwaite left more because he was on like 60k something a week wages

Messi's contract gets leaked, the figures are truly eye watering, apparently the largest in sporting history.

Tonight he's scored his 49th direct free kick for Barcelona make it 650 goals in 755 appearances, with 284 assists in that period too. Staggering.

Done decent with Argentina too.

If all clauses/bonuses etc were met it would be worth £492m over 4 years. He's been paid £450m of that figure already. Wild.

Apparently 50% of is tax, so it's "only" £225m he's getting himself.

Mental figures, but I suppose he's more than backed it up on the pitch.

If he takes a paycut I'd have him. Not sure he fits a Warnock side though 😂

The scenes when Marvin Johnson starts ahead of him because he works aaaard.
