Rhys Williams

Don't get me wrong, fantastic result tonight, but it also confirmed to me that Williams is 100% a CB and if anyone thinks his best position in CM, you obviously wern't at the game! Gave the ball away far too many times, and is far to casual, looked lost most of the night, and worst of all failed engage in the match/look for the ball. Kudos though for the slide tackle which he then passed to Miller to set up the goal!

Interesting. So, as it stands, we have a large number of people following several arguments;

(1) that he's a woeful RB,

(2) his passing and presence in midfield was poor,

(3) Woodgate is our best defender and Bikey must start games.

I completely missed all coverage of the game today, so based upon today's performance I really have no input. But it's sounding increasingly like we should rest him unless;

(a) Woodgate is injured, thus should partner Bikey.

(b) Genuine alternative midfield options are lacking form or fitness.

Personally, I would find it very difficult to leave him out. But a lot of good cases seem to be coming out that suggest he's a bit of a weak link at the moment.

Agree AR, but maybe he needs to be rested a bit more, or not used a much untill he's back to 100%

Prowler, it's not just one game, I've seen him multiple times played in Midfield, once on the wing, even as a CAM behind the striker. But the guy just isn't that good and doesn't have the vision to play there. We all wanted him to be this cultured, silky midfielder, who sprays passes around and chips in with goals, just doesn't do it. But he is a very talented CB, just feel that we have better options in midfield than Williams.

Obviously I'm not too sure what he's been like in recent away matches, but as I've mentioned in my player ratings he has been atrocious against Barnsley & Leeds.

I don't think he should be given a special reserve for being captain as that means little these days, he is not the logical choice in any position right now and should therefore be dropped for a period until it makes sense to slot him back in there.

I don't think the positions he has played in have had much to do with it as he has lacked basic footballing ability at times in these two games and he can play both positions well when he's on form.

Has anyone noticed that since he came back our form has slumped?

this

he could be blamed for some goals conceded before the watford match.

against watford, he scored an own goal and nearly scored another with it just over the bar

against leicester, he was not solid unwilling to do a rb job to overlap

i think we should pick players by form in lieu of calibre. he should be dropped

if mogga insists on starting him, he should be cm in lieu of cb considering any errors caused by him will cost us goals

hines should start ahead of him right now

Well he started his first game back for us against Watford and was very good up until his huge mistake for Vydra's first goal and I think that has crushed his confidence and he hasn't recovered from that mistake yet given it was straight after coming back from months out injured with a really bad injury.

pls correct me if i am wrong. he played a few matches before against watford and the first game he started after injury was our home match against blackburn. from the highlights i saw, a goal conceded to derby was due to him wrongly clearing off the ball straight back to opposition in our box.

He came on against Blackpool but his first start was against Derby, which I forgot about, but still coming back into the side with a make shift CB in Bailey beside him in that game then in his next league start to make such a huge mistake against Watford is bound to crush his confidence.
