p_mards 1,653 8.4k
He hasn't turned into a bad player overnight, its just confidence so he'll come good again in time. I see his best position as a ball playing CB, similar to Ashley Williams at Swansea.
HandsOfSteele 12 1.1k
It's amazing what a bit of confidence can so for you. And so far he is lacking that. But even though from people's ratings in here he wasn't the best player, all have said he was better than the last game. So hopefully he can take something from the fact he made the tackle that released the ball to miller to set up the goal. And the fact that he seemed extremely happy (punched the air?) at the final whistle, and continue to build that confidence up again. :)

If he was stronger it would definitely take his game up a notch.

His tackle to feed miller for the goal was fantastic. If i were mogga id just leave him in cm to get his confidence and form back, then think about tinkering. Prowler 197 20.1k
Aye, Reach needs to hit the weights a bit, so does Hines.
FoggansFlyingPig 24 1.3k
I have always believed he would give us something from midfield we have lacked for years in terms of physicality and the ability to get up to and in some cases beyond our forwards. However the it is hardly an ideal time to do this when he has been out of the team due to a serious injury and he is not yet up to speed physically or confidence wise. It would have been far easier for him to slot into this role if he had been doing it throughtout pre-season and since the start of the year. To do this at this point will mean he looks a bit bewildered at moments until he settles into exactly where he needs to be on the pitch and what he needs to be doing. However i would be happy if we would stick with this for another few weeks and espiecally to see how he impacts when there is a little more space in away games. chipchat 61 3.1k
Against Leicester, he was superb in midfield. When he moved to right-back to cover for Hoyte's injury, we lost so much in that midfield battle with Thomson in his place. Before that, he'd given us strength and a measure of control in that area. Sadly, I'm relying on streams to see Boro matches these days, so I haven't seen him in action since that match, but he can definitely be a strong midfield presence for us, and has been. If his form isn't providing that at the moment, I certainly wouldn't write him off as form will come back.
MattyBoro 4 380
For me both Rhys and McEachran have been poor since coming back from injury. By the sounds it was Josh's best game for Boro since last night with a couple of through balls but he's not in the form he was pre injury. Williams has been poor/average since return making a fair few mistakes. I'm hoping its just ring rust and with games the confidence and form will return. I agree he shouldn't just be picked on merit (captain or not) and would maybe bench him for the next game. Is Reach injured? He's been one of our best attacking players this year when played. Air Resistance 26 3.6k
I think mogga just doesn't want to over use reach. McEachren fornmy money did really well last night, looked very solid in his tackling for once and played some delightful passes.
starbuy 35 1.7k
Williams isn't the player he was before his injury. I'm hoping he can get back to his best but I don't think he should be considered a definite starter at the moment. I think a lot of our shape has been wrong trying to fit Williams in. He's not good enough at RB. CB might be where he will eventually end up but he needs lesson from Woodgate. At the moment the biggest problem seems to be form and confidence. He did get better against Leeds as the game progressed, but we lost possession several times because he wasn't switched on and ended up taking one heavy touch too many or lost it playing a pass that should have been straight forward. Maybe Mogga thinks he'll only get back into the swing of things by playing more football, but he's thought that about Emnes too and now finally realised he needed some time on the sidelines. As for McEachran, I can't help wondering if we played him in every game we could just to ensure Chelsea let us keep him. Now they can't take him back, Mowbray says he'll be used more sparingly. Well, for me he is top quality, but you have to give him the platform and freedom to do some damage. Certainly his confidence is lacking (as is most of the team's) but he also grew into the game last night and if we can get him involved more often, then he can be a match winner. Confidence is the key word at the Boro right now because if we want to challenge for those promotion spots, we need to rediscover it and get back to playing like we did last year! richmfc 41 11.1k
i said after he came back and got MOM in his first game that that happens sometimes . you come back from a long injury and for who knows what reason have a cracking first game then it all goes down hill for a while until you get up to speed , the problem isnt if he will get back to the player he was its what his confidence will be like when he gets there. we could do with resting him until hes fully match fit . HandsOfSteele 12 1.1k
Agreed SB and Rich, confidence is the key, and not just with him, but the whole team. And even if the performance wasn't upto scratch last night compared to before Christmas, it was better, and I think we will see it growing in every game. It's actually a plus for us that we have a lot of games coming up in a short period I think. If players need to be rested they can be, with a good reason, without feeling like they have been "dropped" UTB
Guest borofranky 0
I think it's been difficult for Williams since his return I mean so far he's played 3 posistions in a team thats become low of confidence. No one has particularly shone since new year but hopefully last nights win will inject confidence and get things back in track
