2plus2 290
2013 Confederations Cup PL Group Stage Days 6 & 7. 23/06/13 Sorry for the delay! Have been a bit busy so will have to compile both the Day 6 and Day 7 results together. So, the final group standings, as well as the eight group winners who will progress to the PL Quarter-Finals! Who has made it? The Quarter-Final thread and prediction requirements for the lucky victors will be posted at some point tomorrow afternoon. Let's dig in... Confederations Cup Actual Results Fixture 9: Italy 2-4 Brazil. Dante 45', Giaccherini 51', Neymar 55', Fred 66' & 88', Chiellini 71'. Fixture 10: Japan 1-2 Mexico. Hernandez 54' & 66', Okazaki 86'. Tellerion [MP; 09] [GD; -08] [PF; 23] [PA; 31] Summary Wahey! 2plus2 defies the odds and secures a place in the Quarter-Finals, winning the group in the end with an 8 point winning margin. On top of that, he [yes, I will refer to myself in the third person] ends the group stage unbeaten in all 12 matches with the joint best attack in the competition (32 goals). He celebrates with whiskey. Lots of whiskey. Ollie10 put up a stern fight but in the end the close late head-to-head results have had a big impact on the standings. Tellerion finishes bottom of the group and exits at the stage alongside Ollie. Group B Fixture 9: LegendaryMisfit 1-1 Borodane Humpty 3-2 McTom123 Fixture 10: Borodane 2-4 McTom123 Humpty 2-2 LegendaryMisfit Fixture 11: McTom123 2-1 LegendaryMisfit Bordane 1-2 Humpty Fixture 12: LegendaryMisfit 1-3 Borodane Humpty 3-3 McTom123 Current Standings 01. LegendaryMisfit [MP; 09] [GD; -12] [PF; 16] [PA; 28] Summary Borodane was the pre-tournament favourite, and after opening up such a commanding lead by the mid-way point in the competition, very few thought that he wouldn't be a***st an elite group in the final 8. And, in the end, that prediction came true. But Humpty can hold his head up high after putting in an excellent late season run to push the Dane right the very end. He came up short, just, but the future bodes well for this bright and talented predictor. McTom and LegendaryMisfit also exit at this early juncture. But both pleased the crowds and leave with the support and admiration of the local community. McTom, in particular, will feel hard done by, as his 25 goals bested all competitors in his group, yet in the end he only managed a third place finish. Harsh. Group C Fixture 9: Group Average 2-3 Treknut Boro-unger 1-2 Stubbzy69 *The average score in this group fixture was exactly 2 points. Fixture 10: Treknut 2-2 Stubbzy69 Boro-unger 3-2 Group Average *The average score in this group fixture was 2.33, which is rounded to the nearest whole number to give a group average for this fixture of 2 points. Fixture 11: Stubbzy69 1-2 Group Average Treknut 2-2 Boro-unger *The average score in this group fixture was 1.66, which is rounded to the nearest whole number to give a group average for this fixture of 2 points. Fixture 12: Group Average 4-3 Treknut Boro-unger 3-5 Stubbzy69 *The average score in this group fixture was 3.66, which is rounded to the nearest whole number to give a group average for this fixture of 4 points. Current Standings 01. Treknut [MP; 20] [GD; +03] [PF; 32] [PA; 29] ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 02. Stubbzy69 [MP; 17] [GD; 00] [PF; 27] [PA; 27] 03. GroupAverage [MP; 14] [GD; -01] [PF; 29] [PA; 30] 04. Boro-unger [MP; 12] [GD; -05] [PF; 26] [PA; 31] Summary Another case of the damn right unbeatable. I know I've said it a million times before, but Treknut - the 4/1 pre-tournament second favourite - might just be the most consistent predictor this PL has to offer. He's through to the last 8 as the group winner, with Stubbzy only a few points behind on his tail. In other news, Unger committed media suicide last night. His exit from the tournament with a lowly points tally ignited mass protests and violent riots as the people's choice, well, let the people down. Will he ever be forgiven? On behalf of dozens of drowned dogs everywhere, they hope not. Group D Fixture 9: Boroboy 1-3 Gladgarethhasgone Alanfromboro 0-1 CStephenson01 Fixture 10: Gladgarethhasgone 2-3 CStephenson01 Alanfromboro 4-3 Boroboy Fixture 11: CStephenson01 1-3 Boroboy Gladgarethhasgone 2-2 Alanfromboro Fixture 12: Boroboy 3-3 Gladgarethhasgone Alanfromboro 3-3 CStephenson01 Current Standings 01. AlanFromBoro [MP; 17] [GD; +01] [PF; 27] [PA; 26] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 02. CStephenson01 [MP; 17] [GD; -04] [PF; 21] [PA; 25] 03. Gladgarethhasgone [MP; 14] [GD; +01] [PF; 27] [PA; 26] 04. Boroboy [MP; 14] [GD; 00] [PF; 28] [PA; 28] Summary A late charge by CStephenson gave Alan plenty to worry about, especially as it went down to a head-to-head last game of the group stage season to decide the victor. But Alan came up trumps with a win by the narrowest of margins - goal difference - and secures his place in the last 8. The 75/1 underdog is through. Gladgareth and Boroboy ended with respectable scores, but will play no further part in this tournament. Group E Fixture 9: Prowler 0-2 YouAreMyBoro Tho_e 1-2 Boroboy1980 Fixture 10: YouAreMyBoro 0-3 Boroboy1980 Tho_e 1-3 Prowler Fixture 11: Boroboy1980 2-1 Prowler YouAreMyBoro 2-3 Tho_e Fixture 12: Prowler 7-3 YouAreMyBoro Tho_e 3-1 Boroboy1980 Current Standings 01. Boroboy1980 [MP; 27] [GD; +13] [PF; 27] [PA; 14] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 02. Tho_e [MP; 15] [GD; -04] [PF; 22] [PA; 26] 03. Prowler [MP; 14] [GD; -01] [PF; 21] [PA; 22] 04. YouAreMyBoro [MP; 11] [GD; -09] [PF; 20] [PA; 29] Summary Boroboy1980 has had a quite simply amazing tournament thus far. At 65/1, few gave him a realistic chance. But he has absolutely stormed through this group at a canter. He is also the highest scoring predictor in the entire competition by a country mile. Tho_3, YouAreMyBoro and Prowler were blown away by a predictor that had the efficiency of Germany, the passing skills of Spain and the flair of Brazil. Prowler will not be winning his duck. But will there be any tears shed? Probably not. Yet at least he ends the competition on a high with a fantastic 7-3 win in his last fixture. Meaningless it may have been, but at least the crowd got their moneys worth. Group F Fixture 9: Group Average 1-2 Nawoo Aarfy_Aardvark 0-2 Tanksie *The average score in this group fixture was 1.33, which is rounded to the nearest whole number to give a group average for this fixture of 1 point. [Fixture 10: Nawoo 2-3 Tanksie Aarfy_Aardvark 0-1 Group Average *The average score in this group fixture was 1.66, which is rounded to the nearest whole number to give a group average for this fixture of 1 point. Fixture 11: Tanksie 1-1 Group Average Nawoo 1-1 Aarfy_Aardvark *The average score in this group fixture was exactly 1 point. Fixture 12: Group Average 3-3 Nawoo Aarfy_Aardvark 3-3 Tanksie *The average score in this group fixture was exactly 1 point. Current Standings 01. Tanksie [MP; 19] [GD; -01] [PF; 21] [PA; 22] -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 02. GroupAverage [MP; 17] [GD; +01] [PF; 22] [PA; 21] 03. Nawoo [MP; 12] [GD; +03] [PF; 23] [PA; 20] 04. Aarfy_Aardvark [MP; 11] [GD; -03] [PF; 20] [PA; 23] Summary Nawoo and Aarfy wil lend this tournament reflecting upon fairly disappointing campaigns, but Tanksie will be delighted to have progresed (ahead of the group average in the end I must add) at their expense. He is, however, the only predictor to progress with a negative goal difference. Group G Fixture 9: Kier 4-3 Neverbefore Smogsterking the Inspiration 2-0 DanFromDownSouth Fixture 10: Neverbefore 3-1 DanFromDownSouth Smogsterking the Inspiration 4-2 Kier Fixture 11: DanFromDownSouth 1-3 Kier Neverbefore 1-3 Smogsterking the Inspiration Fixture 12: Kier 3-1 Neverbefore Smogsterking the Inspiration 3-1 DanFromDownSouth Current Standings 01. Smogsterking [MP; 24] [GD; +09] [PF; 28] [PA; 19] --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 02. Kier [MP; 22] [GD; +06] [PF; 29] [PA; 23] 03. Neverbefore [MP; 12] [GD; -05] [PF; 21] [PA; 26] 04. DanFromDownSouth [MP; 08] [GD; -10] [PF; 17] [PA; 27] Summary Wow. Kier has had a largely impressive tournament, and another set of good results and solid performances must have felt like enough. BUT NO! Smogsterking has done the impossible, and won each and every fixture that he faced on Day 6 and 7. That proved enough to see him top the group and move on to the next stage. In fact, Kier is the highest scoring predictor to exit the competition at this early stage. Unlucky. Neverbefore and DanFromDownSouth never got going and will leave alongside the unfortunate Kier. Group H Fixture 9: Jamesp 1-2 Workingtonboro Vectorboro 2-2 Stephenmilne27 Fixture 10: Workingtonboro 4-3 Stephenmilne27 Vectorboro 4-4 Jamep Fixture 11: Stephenmilne27 1-2 Jamesp Workingtonboro 2-1 Vectorboro Fixture 12: Jamesp 3-3 Workingtonboro Vectorboro 3-3 Stephenmilne27 Current Standings 01. Jamesp [MP; 20] [GD; +05] [PF; 30] [PA; 25] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02. Workingtonboro [MP; 19] [GD; +02] [PF; 27] [PA; 25] 03. Vectorboro [MP; 12] [GD; -04] [PF; 26] [PA; 30] 04. Stephenmilne27 [MP; 09] [GD; -04] [PF; 23] [PA; 27] Summary Hats off to Workingtonboro who so nearly pulled off the impossible. Jamesp in the end progresses, but Workington put together 10 points on the final two days and so nearly made history with one of the greatest PL comebacks ever seen. In the end it all came down to the final fixture, but Jamesp managed to grind out a crucial 3-3 draw in a game where defeat would have seen his elimination. Vectorboro and Stephenmilne will be unhappy with their showings and might fear a backlash from their fans after never really showing any genuine ability to compete with the big boys. So, there you have it! 2plus2, Borodane, Treknut, AlanFromBoro, Boroboy1980, Tanksie, Smogsterking and Jamesp will fight it out in the Quarter-Finals! Like I said before, this new QF thread will be put tomorrow with all the necessary details. Congrats to those who are through. Commiserations to those that are not.

Boroboy1980 6
Easy ***. Can anyone challenge the 65/1 outsider!! Only joking. Wow. What a fluke. Can I get a prize for anhailating the opposition? Haha. Although I did this in the African cup and got spanked next round. When's the next round and ate the odds reviewed? Loved the write up.

smogsterking the Inspirati 2,490
Im thinking a Goran Ivanesevic style victory for somebody who wasnt even mentioned in the odds. With Wimbledon being on it will be a fitting way to mark my pl comeback.
