Powlay 35
No report as such. Boro played Barnsley today in a friendly game, due to the size of the U18 squad and the need for playing time Boro have been arranging midweek friendly games. Barnsley started well and were off to a flyer scoring 3 quick goals. As Boro started to settle they created more chances though. Plews off, Griffiths on. A good run down the left from Jonathan Helm saw him break into space, his shot was deflected and went in at the near post. 1-3 Half Time Fry off, Coleby on, Jowers off, Cooke on. A little formation change saw Boro with 3 men in the midfield (Wheatley, Maloney and Cooke) and this helped instantly. Boro looked a lot more settled and fought hard to keep Barnsley at bay whilst making an impact in the game. A neat Cooke pass saw Maloney finish well for 2-3 then moments later another Cooke pass allowed Armstrong to shoot across the keeper and level it up 3-3 C O'Neill off, Mondal on. Maloney curled a delightful winner across the keeper in the last 5 minutes to finalise the comeback. Coddington made a good save in the last minute from a point blank header to secure Boro the win. Full time Middlesbrough 4 (Helm, Maloney, Armstrong, Maloney) Barnsley 3 Boro: Coddington, Plews (Griffiths), Helm, Wheatley, Elsdon, Fry (Coleby), Jowers (Cooke), Maloney, C. O'Neill (Mondal), Armstrong, Wyke. Unused: Fryer
