Although I do believe that the injury of Williams is a setback when it comes to our more optimistic transfer targets, I reckon we are most likely to just loan in a player. If so, then most of the work, ie. identifying potential targets, should be in place by now and I am confident we will have at least one signed before the end of the window.

I`ll admit, I dont know who`s what in boro`s recruiting set up, but calling Karanka a head coach is to me a clear indicator of a set up in place. With our head coach giving the thumb up for a potential signing, but others identifying and our "new" team of scouts identifying several options for each position on the pitch. It has been made pretty obvious what we are in the market for, a number 9 and a number 10. If the right player comes along, then im sure Gibson would back Karanka, even without a possible sale. However, finding a good number 9 for a reasonable price in a january window is highly unlikely. Actually landing him even more so. Hence, a loan is a more viable option.

If we are to stick by our 4231, something I am confident we will, then that has also ruled out a lot of previously suggested options such as Le Fondre or Sharp. I dont see them as lone strikers, and I certainly dont see them being capable of chasing down defenders, something our current set up requires. After all, he is starting with Main.

I suspect us loaning a striker for now adding competition for Kamara, and that will be it. If we even manage to extend the loan of Given, I would be perfectly happy, given our current league position.

Suggested options such as Le Fondre?

People seriously just make stuff up and run with it as something that could happen, might as well say Ronaldo, Messi, Rooney, or some other players.

Le Fondre wasnt ever leaving Reading.

Le Fondre wasn't starting(and wanting to move) until sharp's loan ended and has been playing regularly since and hit two hat-tricks in consecutive home matches so he wont be going anywhere now.

The only potential recruit that has actually set my pulse racing was the mention of Raul - not as a player but as assistant coach. Can you imagine that? We'd have players queuing up to be signed - Champo team or not!

Ho hum.

I have a theory about our transfer policy

In soccernomics they have a bit about how successful Lyons transfer policy is and how inefficient most clubs are when it comes to recruitment. What they do is sign and sell players based on a number of peoples input.

Its based on 'wisdom of crowds' theory that a group of diverse people are more

likely to come up with a correct decision or outcome than one specialist

We signed adomah after a poll where he topped fans wishlist by a mile = successful signing

The Gazette seem to be doing a lot of polls at the moment, who should we sign? who should we keep? etc

Just a thought but i think it would work. I'm not saying base it soley on fans opinion but certainly take it into account. For every numpty who says shola ameobi you'd probably get four who'd say becchio for example

Where did he say he wanted to move?

Yes, but apart from this, I dont they think they are the type of player that would be a fit for us. -so there`s no reason buying either, just because they are available. They might be able to score more goals then lets say Kamara, but would the team be as good in sum if we had to change our formation entirely just to accomodate a player that was available. The team as a whole would from my thinking end up being worse then we were at first.
